I use a Blue Yeti and where I don't really have room on my desk I try and position it between me and my keyboard and at least try and go 2-3 feet away from me and try matching the gain to where it sounds fairly good.
Then I will use audacity to eliminate any background noise that I can. Its the best I can do, but my videos sound a lot better than a lot of my older stuff... so, you could try something like that?
