Uploading videos as private then making public

Hey everyone,

So I am a bit confused at the moment on what to do regarding my latest video. Seeing as it is coming to the end of the holidays and I am going to be really busy with school (Year 12 :)) I wanted to stock up on some videos. My latest video I made today, and I dont want to publish it yet but I want to be able to show my mates as it is using my new DJI Phantom 2 I got.

So my question is, to my understanding view within the first 24 hours are very important in the new YouTube algorithm (correct me if im wrong) so if I upload the video as private, and then make it public in a week or so, will this effect the first 24 hour views? In other words will my video be considered "new" when I make it public or when its uploaded?

Also is there any difference to making a video private and then manually switching it to public or just scheduling an upload? Does it change any of the technical aspects of the video or is the only difference one is automatic and one is manual?

Thanks once again guys,
Ray

As far as my understanding goes, It will have shown as old for example. IF you upload a video and set it to private then a month later to public it will still be a month old :/ Therefore, disregarding the '24 hour key'. But you could try unlisting them to see it that makes a difference.

Sorry if I couldn't help :(

It's only a new upload once you put it public as nobody would have seen it before. The only advantage that scheduling an upload has over manually doing it is not having to worry and have to come back and do it manually! You set the date & time and it will go live on the very minute you scheduled it for, it's pretty neat :D

I tried setting an old video (which was private) to public. Left it for 10 mins or so and tried to see if it came as new! It didn't... I tried another account to look at it but it still said "uploaded a month ago"...

If you make it private, then set it to scheduled, I believe it shows the date it was published as opposed to uploaded.

as far as my own experience goes. The day you make it public is the it shows as uploaded to the public. But that is just my own experience

In my experience, the moment you set it to 'public', YouTube changes the publish date to the current date. It also sends out email notifications to subscribers, so I assume YouTube will treat it as new.

If you make it private, then set it to scheduled, I believe it shows the date it was published as opposed to uploaded.

So if I set it to private, and give my mates the link to check it out, then once they are all done set it to scheduled, it will change the date to whatever day I schedule it for? That sounds great, exactly what I need

If you upload a private video, your YouTube video Manager will show the date the video was uploaded. If you release the video a month later, to the public it will show the day of release.

Nothing to worry about. Upload them, stock them, release them later.
