Upload schedule's

Different things work for different people, my personal approach is to "upload" a video every Friday (in reality it's usually been ready to go at least 4 days beforehand) and in one "recording session" (for lack of a better term) I usually film 2 - 4 videos. If some concepts aren't working, I can throw out the footage safely knowing that I still have something to work with and on a good day when all the footage can be used for videos, I can have several weeks ready to go (usually if I have a backlog of videos ready I'll put up "bonus" uploads so I don't end up working several months ahead).
I don't think it would come as a surprise to my subscribers that I work this way, I don't usually change clothes between video ideas and if I have makeup on, I don't take it off and reapply it to look different. My filming habits aren't something I talk about but equally I don't go out of my way to deliberately deceive anyone into thinking I sit down in front of a camera every Friday and upload the results the same day for people to watch.
Some thoughts based on the things you've listed....
- I get that too, I've just finished the video for next week and I'm eager for everyone to see it! The thing that's keeping me from putting it up now is knowing that the quality of my next video may suffer if I have to rush it. I'll sometimes watch my video again just before it goes live to remind myself of the excitement I had when putting it together (or if I haven't CCed, I do that too).
- This isn't a big problem for me because of the filming habits I've mentioned above but it is good to have a "backup video" just in case.
- As above, watching it again helps me to remember what I was thinking at the time. I can manage to reply to comments months later with something to say so I don't imagine a couple of weeks would be a problem.
Ultimately it's a personal choice and everyone works differently but from my way of working, I find upload schedules to be a great way to keep myself disciplined and organised.

I assume the best would be once a week, but would once every two weeks be ok too? And should you upload on the same day each week or is it ok to scatter it sometimes? I currently have no set schedule and don't know if I'm going to adopt one

I don't think a schedule matters as much when you first start out. I would say though , the more content you upload early on, the more presence you give yourself , which you for sure need being new. If you have a huge channel is when the upload times become more important. If you upload every tuesday, your 1 million subs are gonna know you upload on tuesday and they are gonna be waiting for it. It you have 100 subs it's not really the same. I also think huge channels can get away with uploading less often because they know when they do release their video once a week, or 2 weeks or month, it's getting a million views. If you only have 100 subs you 100% know that will not happen so the more content you can put out to possibly get viewed the better. I'm not saying release 10 half assed videos a day, but I would for sure try and do more than 1 a week if you can manage it. Think about it like this. If you are a low viewed channel. You release a video on monday and it gets 10 views. You release another video the following monday , and it gets 10 views. If you had released a video, t,w,th,f,s,s, that would be 60 more hypothetical views you could have had that week and the following one.

I tried to stictly schedule my videos once. Told my subs and did it for around a week and it took all the fun out of Youtubing. I started to feel like I had to post, not that I wanted to post. Turned a fun hobby in to a horrible chore. I am still kind of scheduled and have set days in my head for when certain content will be out, but if I miss it then I am not bothered (I never miss it though).

I upload videos as I finish them, but I have them scheduled to be published on a regular schedule. I do one at noon every Monday one at midnight at the beginning of every Friday. That way each video has 3.5 days of being my featured video before the next one goes up. I have a lot of videos scheduled and people are waiting on certain ones of them that they requested. If I did only one video a week, it would take twice as long for them to wait. If I did three a week, videos wouldn't have long enough to have a chance to be viewed and featured before the next one went up.
