I would do it, if I made a certain type of video...but our types of videos cannot really implement it in a non spammy way like a show or top 10 could do!

Basically this. You don't get access to the tracking stats. He does because it's his affiliate code in the link and you just have to take his word for it.

He's just a middleman that you don't even need. You could just sign up as an affiliate directly and take the full 50%
 
Why are you asking us? You could just ... email him back and ask?

If it's a product you believe in and think will sell, I don't see any harm in going down that route, after you verify the details such as how can you keep track of sales, what sort of revenue can you expect, and the names of other youtubers who have partnered up with him (an honest businessman will be happy to have you talk to his other collaborators).
