Ultimate question. DO NETWORKS INCREASE EARNINGS?

But I read a lot that MCN's have higher earnings because they make exlusive deals with advertisers.

They all say that, that's the bait to get people signing up! I get 30-50 emails a week from networks. I've only ever replied to one who was being sneaky and trying to come across as an advertiser.

That's true if they have an internal Ad-sales team, but the problem is that they can't fill more than 10-15% (if I recall correctly) of the total ads inventory due to Adsense regulation, and that means if they will improve your CPM, it will be just slightly.

In my opinion if you are joining a network just because you want more money, the only way to go is obtaining a very high revenue share (no less than 90%) coupled with a sign-up bonus. And that's going to happen only if you have a large, established channel.

Its a yes and no answer. Most MCNs has premium advertising teams which can bring in quite a bit of revenue and then you have most MCNs which just use Googles and make absolutely no difference. That's what I've seen around. There are some MCNs out there which can bring you an extra revenue stream too.

I think the ultimate question is more like: "Why should anyone ever join a network in the first place (outside of really specific and extraordinary circumstances)?"

Of course they do but only if you have at leas a million subs and/or millions of views per month/day.

I have noticed that the only thing a network has done for me is take 30% of my earnings every month and enable me to get a payout if I'm under the $100/month threshold in Adsense. Since about mid-2015 I haven't had this problems.

They also offered me a fairly basic audio/image library, which I don't even use. Pictures, I have no problem curating myself, and I went to another website for better audio that cost me a few more pennies, but was well worth it.

I terminated my contract with them and will be on my own here in a few weeks. I'm very excited to get my 30% cut back and work directly with Google/YouTube.

TL;DR - I would stay away from a network unless:

1) they offer you a fixed monthly amount
2) they offer to promote your video, thus more views/subs
3) you don't want to wait for the $100 payment threshold

I say this time and time again. Networks do NOT increase your CPMs. Unless they're selling ads directly for your channel, you won't see an increase in earnings. (Only the very top tier of channels seem to get any sort of customised ad deals)

The only benefit that network advertising brings by default is non skippable and long non skippable ads (not exclusive to MCNs, though, and these are not guaranteed to make you more money)

Ive seen my share of scams and bad deals. To me, MCNs sound like they were not created to fill a need in the market. There wasn't a demand for MCNs. There are plenty of pictures or audio provided for free even through youtube.

I dont really know what kind of benefit MCNs really provide that a person cant get themselves. If youre entrepreneurial enough to figure out everything that goes into making videos, using youtube, and marketing them then you probably figure out everything else yourself.

MCNs sound like something that occurred when a bunch of big youtubers got together and realized they could use their name recognition and influence to earn tremendous amount of money by taking a cut out of everyone else's pie. It's a service based on taking advantage of the inexperienced.

I still don't know what service they provide that is a real benefit to most youtubers. I think they have a service to help you license your brand but thats only useful for big channels. Theyre selling things people can do themselves to a diy type of customer.

Anyways im surprised google even sanctions this kind of activity. maybe its grandfathered in from when they were young and growing. and now theyre stuck since disney owns an mcn. Otherwise what a headache. Im sure in every lawsuit against an MCN, lawyers are looking for ways to include google in the suit for chance to get bigger payoff.

YouTube are stricter on new MCNs, and won't easily accept new applicants that are just going to take creators revenue and not do anything.

Since I couldn't be YouTube partner from my country i joined one very popular YouTube third party network and it was really bad experience for me. At first 3 months it was ok and promising but after that my views rapidly dropped and that small amount of money i was earning was sliced cause my contract was really bad, but I couldn't change it. When I somehow managed to get out of the contract i partnered directly with YouTube cause it was finally enabled. Later I opened my profile on Rumble network and I had half of my videos with YouTube and Half with Rumble. I can honestly say that my experience with Rumble was perfect. I'm with them around 10 months and I earned around 1000 $. Everything is clear and transparent. They really promoted my videos well on MSN, AOL, Yahoo.... I highly recommend them.
