Twitch is sold to Amazon (and not YouTube as initially thought)

Variety just released a report on their website claiming that YouTube has reached a deal to buy Twitch for over $1 billion in an all-cash offer. If you don't know what Twitch is, it is a livestreaming video platform focusing on e-sports and video games. It's a very popular site too, with 43 million viewers every month on Twitch with the average viewer watching around one and a half hours of content a day.

I'm actually really curious to see whether or not this deal is true or not. I'm a massive fan of Twitch and one thing I actually don't want Google/YouTube doing is turning it into rubbish e.g. Google+ Integration with Twitch (pls no) On the other hand, it could be good for Twitch and having Google behind them could bring some benefits, but I am a bit sceptical of this.

What do you think about this?

Couldn't agree more to be honest. Twitch has a great community and the staff working there are amazing. I don't want YouTube screwing anything up.

Google has to much of a monopoly on this industry as it is, twitch is one of the main competitors that can actually bring in big numbers. There needs to be competition out there or else we will just be stuck with s**t that never has to improve or evolve.

Well, I have not used twitch (watched some, my net is too slow to watch and stream). But I think they should not buy it.

Was expecting it already last year but seeing that YouTube had to put 1 B on the Table I expect that the negotiation wasn`t as easy as I had expected them to be. Still nice to see that the Team at Twitch did made the right move.
