Turn off adds for non moneytised channels?

UhoohExtra

I Love YTtalk
I noticed i have the box ticked for youtube to play adds on my videos. I don't get paid for adds as my channel isn't big enough to get moneytised. Should I turn it off in hope to gain more watch hours as people won't be turning over on adds. Or do ads help get my videos favoured by youtube for suggestions and search? And is it possible ads don't play on my content anyway even though its ticked. I'm a bit clueless on this. Hopefully someone in the know can leave me a bit better informed. Thanks

I would leave them on. If YouTube is not going to earn any money from you, why would they recommend your content?
YouTube doesnt care about your content - they care about revenue.

If you’re not monetized, ads shouldn’t play on your videos if I’m not mistaken. If it’s a copyrighted video and it’s monetized by the owners ads might appear.

Also that button is for ads to be personalized, not for ads on the videos all together. It’s asking if you’re monetized do you want your audience to get generic ads, or personalized ads based on cookies.

Thanks VidaDejermiah. You know your stuff! Do you have another channel too? I watched and thumbed up your MTV video for you :)

That's one thing I don't think most people understand. YouTube doesn't want most channels monetized, that's why they are taking so absurdly long (and as I predicted, they won't be done by the end of June either). They want to make money and they don't want to share it. That button is on by default and most people don't know that it can even be turned off. The only channels they want monetized are the ones that are completely inoffensive to advertisers and that will make them money, or that push a political narrative that they approve of. YouTube is not now, nor have they ever been your friend. Lately, they've actively been most people's enemy.

youtube is ultimately a business and should be viewed as such, even if you have fun and want to build a friendly helpful community, the medium and foundation it's on is and always will be a business.

Perhaps Youtube is like a car or a bike or a boat. It is not a friend or an enemy.
It is the means that transport your stuff. And in analogy depending how you treat / drive it it responds in a good or bad way...

:)

Theres definitely no better place on the net i know of where peoples can explore their creativity and get exposure for it. And tons of free tuition and guides in learning academy.
