Trying to improve my commentary

Hi guys,

I have a gaming channel, for now it's mostly Let's Plays but I intend to do other formats as well...

I've been trying to be a more active commentator here, that's something I'm eager to improve, some of my commentary has been kinda lame (and non-existant more often than it should be) :)

It's very difficult to do a lively and enticing commentary while thinking about what to do in a game, how to solve a puzzle, how not to get stuck...

Tell me how I did, I'm curious about your thoughts...

You did alright, but you're right about you getting distracted and your commentary struggling. Sometimes it's better to beat a portion of a game and then go back and replay it so you know what you're doing. Also, your microphone quality isn't so good, so maybe you should consider upgrading in that department. I think you can you can better. Good luck!

I could, but that wouldn't be exactly a Let's Play, just an ordinary playthrough... LPs should, by definition, be "blind"... But I'll keep on working on that...

I'm well aware of that, and I've been trying since the start, but the problem is it's almost impossible to get any in my country, so I'm trying to "smuggle" something from abroad, which is also quite a hassle...

Damn 3rd world banana joke countries... What are you gonna do... :confused: :facepalm2:

In commentaries, even if you're trying to focus on what's going on, just try and chat generally if you have to. Obviously it's important to keep the audience engaged, so if you get to a point when you think "I've gotta focus on what I'm doing" or "I need to stop talking so I can work it out" why don't you talk the audience through it? If you're confused, show them you're confused, tell them you're confused. Try and play as though you're sitting there with a friend and neither of you knows what's going on, trying to work it all out together. That'll help your commentaries stay focussed and also increase your engagement with everyone watching. People have personal preference as to what type of commentary they enjoy, so just speak in a way that you're most comfortable and over time your commentaries will improve as you become more relaxed and more experienced.
 
Yes @RattlidgeGaming exactly! That's what I'm telling myself. "Just remember to talk, to let out what's on your mind, talk them through your thought process". But every now and again I start to mumble or sigh etc... But I'm working on it, hopefully practice will help :)
 
Practice, practice, and more practice. Every big lets player you know or follow on youtube didn't get big without going through the same thing we all go through. It's about finding what works with your personality and cutting out what doesn't. Getting good at live coms is really all about repetition. So just keep working on it and give it your best if you keep doing that you'll keep improving your commentary.
