Trending videos

Hi there - new to youtube so bear with me.

I uploaded a clip in dec that went viral yesterday and started appearing in the trending tab so got a lot of views quite quickly (600,000 in 24 hours). People advised me to monetize which we did, and of course I have lots of offers to sell the video to viral marketing agencies who promise to get more views/ads etc.

It's not why we uploaded the clip, but happy to make some pocket money if I can, I'll buy my daughter some new toys if we make anything.

My question is how long you'd expect this to keep getting views? It's already dropped way down the list in just 1 day so I assume it's going to fade into obscurity as soon as it got lots of attention? And if that's true it may be worth accepting one of the offers we have had to sell the rights?

If I knew it would keep getting views, I'd probably just keep it for myself.

I guess it depends on what your end game is with this video. If it's one video and you're not too concerned with it bringing more viewers to your channel, sell the rights and get the quick cash. No video retains a ton of views for a very long time (it's the nature of viral videos). However, if you want that as a base for people who will search for that video they heard about and will then reach your channel/other videos you've made, then I'd say keep it.
