What exactly makes a video go on the trending list?

It seems to me like nearly ANY VIDEO a channel with X million subs posts.. is going to trend..

Are there any sites that show trending stats based on other factors, or filterable trend lists ect..

Sometimes you gotta make a game trend yourself. From my studies of channels from 300k-1million, they all had a break-out video on a random indie game/small game that they themselves kinda monopolized on by making like 12 videos of it , then I assume the bigger channels pick up on it and since he has a lot of videos for that game, they started racking in views. IMO from what I've seen. Pick a game that is interesting that you like and make it fun.

I always assumed that the Trending videos were hand-picked by YouTube staff, in order to send people to channels they wanted to support.

I'm trying to think of something witty to bounce off this. But I can't. Perfect sarcasim.

Trending is ******** in my eye, YouTube desperately needs an up coming section for smaller channels but that won't generate millions of views and in turn millions of $€£...
