I just edited my first video and the transitions look??? Weird? is this something that comes with practice or is there a good strategy?
:) :)

Hey fatfrog! You're currently fading one clip into another and I don't really think that it looks weird to be honest! You could practice transitions and have some fun with it if you want to! There are many tutorials on YouTube on different kind of transitions so if you want to practice, you could look it up!

Thanks man yeah i went for a fade cause it looked really snappy. will look for some transition tutorials on youtube thanks :)

Transitions are fun. I mostly use cross dissolve (that's what it is called in Final Cut Pro). I think it is slightly less harsh than the fade you used.

The thing with transitions is that they can sometimes be overused. I tend not to use many. But it's up to the person's taste and the content.

I agree! I tend to use transitions whenever I'm switching screens (like in my video I'm going to post Sunday) or just whenever I feel like it. It's really just a personal decision.

will check out your video and have a look thanks man :)

Your avatar is really cool, I like it :)

Also very cool video, can't wait to see your next video! Subscribed.

If you're going to continue doing videos like this one, I would stick to cross dissolve as I use it all the time when doing explanation videos.

But, if you're doing videos where you have to do cut aways for product demonstration, then back again I would recommend a cool custom transition like steel doors closing, or lense flair, etc.

Even for just doing an intro description, then doing the video then back again for the outro you could do a custom transition as well.

I'll give you an example based on your first video. Let's say your next video is going to be an outdoors hiking video.

intro -> Hey everyone, it's Amy and today we will be going hiking in (insert place here), so let's get going!
transition -> dip to black, show channel logo, zoom in to logo, cut to video hiking
video -> talking, explaining, showing the landscape, etc.
transition -> dip to black, show channel logo, zoom logo in, cut to outro video
outro -> Thanks for watching everyone, tomorrow we will be going to (insert place here) for some more fun adventures, so be sure to subscribe so we can continue our adventure together!

- insert outro card with watch previous video, show subscribe button with link.

To be honest dude just leave it without transitions. Looks more cinematic and higher production value opposed to the fade, which kind of looks Movie Maker-esque :/
