I was watching a preview of Gravity Falls then I notice in the comments there are 2 top comments with the thumbs up thingy just like the top comment system back in 2012...
I might be hallucinating...
but would they need Google+ plus to have a custom user name in their channel??No, the channel most likely hasn't linked to a Google+ profile/page so they've still got the old comments.
Nope, you were able to make a custom username before Google forced Plus on everyone.but would they need Google+ plus to have a custom user name in their channel??
I think you're confusing the username with the channel name. They are 2 different things. You have always been able to have spaces in your channel name prior to Google+ (my 2nd channel listed in my signature was created long before Google+), in fact it was Google+ that resulted in some channels (like Two Best Friends Play now known as TheSw1tcher) no longer being able to use spaces because of being incorrectly linked with a profile instead of a page. The /user and /channel existed before Google+ as well, /channel would always link to your unique channel ID and user would do the same unless you set a custom URL. The old system only shows up if you're not integrated with Google+.Except for the fact that they have spaces in their Username, at which was not possible before Google+ integration. It seems to be unique to this channel (and a few out there). I can see this on their most recent video, too. Also, they didn't used to have /channel/(gibberish here) before Google+, if I am not mistaken. It would be /user/(name) would it not? Anyway, I got to any other channel and it is using the current system. I see this post and the only channel I have seen with the old system is this one. It doesn't make sense because they are integrated with Google+
I stand corrected, except for one detail. You were unable to change your channel name beforehand. Your Channel Name was your Username before Google+. That channel would had to of needed to be integrated with Google+ in order to change the channel name like that.I think you're confusing the username with the channel name. To clarify:
Username is: TheMysteryofGF
Channel name is: The Mystery of Gravity Falls
Their channel URL:
Channel ID is: UC38Qv_0pYEdw8WL2MClJKtA
Nope, I always had a separate username and channel name from the day I started my channel (if not I'd have put more significant thought into my old channel's branding) and I had 2-3 more prior to that because I kept deleting it because I didn't like the username, and as I mentioned my old channel was created before Google+ tainted YouTube. The Google+ integration is what messed a lot of things up and resulted in people HAVING to have their username being their channel name and even resulted in people having to have their real names as their channel names for a while, the only workaround was to connect your channel to a page and not a profile in order to keep your username/URL and channel name separate. There are still some channels out there that haven't integrated with Google+ because of how unnecessary the integration was.I stand corrected, except for one detail. at least it makes them an official that most people can recognize them as.. lol xDtheir URL was TheSw1tcher and channel name was Two Best Friends Play, after Google+ they got screwed and were stuck with their username being their channel name.
