TO many gamers on youtube?

I wanted to do a thread like this but I was too scared to for people jumping on me. I think we should try to encourage more of the other talents here to even things out.
 
the thought of making a living just by playing video games... don't you think this is the main motivation for all let's players? and i completely understand that, especially when you make a pretty decent living like pewdiepie. he makes like 200k in just one month... of course a life like that seems appealing to most teenagers..

what these people don't understand, however, is that a gaming channel takes so much more than just "playing games" and "talking some stuff" over it. it takes a lot of work. you need to be funny, entertaining and very informativ on the other hand. and very importantly: you have to be a good gamer!!! strangely many people seem to forget that...^^

i think you are right, there are way too many gamers on youtube. and i would be okay with that if they would stick to the things i just pointed out. unfortunatly most of them don't...

the reason I thuink gaming video are easy is because your just doing what someone else already planned for you to do. So there could be 100's of nearly identical videos.

but I guess cutting out the boring part would making it unqiue because the video would be presented the best
 
I understand the point of saying gaming videos are easier to make, personally I tried before and personally have respect for people who do gaming videos because there's no way I could be making content out of some gameplay. I would find it very hard to limit myself to just a voice over (even though I've been told when I comment over people playing games it's the funniest s**t they have heard) I personally feel like I'm trapped when making content like that. So it is much easier on the editing and actually capturing side (I know epic montages take serious amount of editing sometimes so this is just on general gaming videos) but at the same time it's hard in the way that you have to be entertaining without much to work with.

The fact that for me to create one of my videos can take 1 or 2 whole days of just capturing footage then another half day just editing through the hours of footage captured to cut it down to around 5 minutes and then finding and syncing all the audio files from a separate device. So it takes a lot less effort and time to make a 5 minute gaming video compared to a 5 min video I make.

But at the same time I like the videos I make and if the videos I was doing where as easy as a gaming video to make there would be tens of thousands of people doing the exact same stuff. So if loads of people keep making gaming videos it makes it easier for me to stand out doing my thing.

So in short, I think everyone else should start making gaming channels :P
 
Poor quality Let's Plays where people do no editing at all and just press record are the ones where you're allowed to say no editing is involved.

I'm surprised NO ONE has ever mentioned this guy from what I've seen, but allow me to bring a famous Let's Player into this conversation. His YouTube name is Chuggaaconroy, he has over 600,000 subscribers.

You can tell that he edits for long periods of time just by taking a glance at his video. For his Super Mario 64 DS LP, the top screen and bottom screen are right next to each other, the background fades and changes depending on what level he's in, he cuts out parts that he knows will be boring for viewers to watch; he likely re-watches his entire episode just to make sure that if he mentioned anything and forgot to continue it, that he puts text there, or puts music if he mentions a certain tune. Now, if you disregard all of the work he's done so far, he does things known as 'Star Menus', any Mario game he plays that involves getting a set amount of stars, he creates an entire interactive menu where you click through the annotations to get to other menus in order to find the star you're stuck on and want to see him do. Just...just take a look and click through some of this:

Now this is a PERFECT example of a guy that really puts work into his gaming videos; sure there are people who don't do this much, but I just think you guys should look around and notice the people putting tons of work into their gaming videos.
 
Yup. I think there are too many gaming channels and usually, I don't even like gaming channel.
Ok there are maybe 3-4 gaming channel that I like but that's it...Sometimes I just find it very boring.
In fact the hting that bored me the MOST is when every video is per example the youtuber playing CoD and talking about...the weather or things that I really don't care.
One thing that I've realized is that when I see the face of the person, it already makes the video 5 times more interesting for me. Just a thought.
I still adore Chaoticmonki(aka Cryotic aka Cry) and he doesnt even show his face. But he edits his video a lot. And he cuts the long-unecessary parts. Which should be A MUST for every gamer.

Why would it make you feel bad when you are only doing it for fun ? Do your thing :) even the most serious and top youtubers probably started out doing it just for fun as well. Now days there might be more people starting youtube for different reasons but i definitely wont forget the time i uploaded my first video and why i did it back in 2007. We just wanted to film ourselves doing what we loved and then stuck it online so we could show our mates :) and even though i may put a lot more time and effort into it now i still only upload my videos so i can show my mates and hear back from them about how they laughed their asses off haha
