To join, or not to join?

I'm nearly at 100k subs. I've been approached by over 15+ networks. Even several times over. I haven't responded to a single one, because I fail to see the pros. I've read tons of stuff about partnerships, but all I see is that I have to give them some of my revenue and not really recieving anything of value in return?

I imagine some of you here have joined a network. Why did you do it? Why didn't you just keep going on your own? Is there something I'm missing?

It just doesn't feel right to just "give away" my channel like that, but still, everyone else seems to be doing it so something must be good about it?

At your subs level you'd earn money, and you'd have the power to negotiate a short but profitable contract (so 80/20 and 1 year instead of the usual crappy 60/40 2 years that small channels are forced to accept).

You're not earning now, so no matter what ratio you took, you'd be better off.

Well I joined a network for a bit of security with my channel, someone to contact if things happen aswell as the benefits of the music library, which has helped me loads :)

In all honesty they won't really do anything to help unless your pretty big (which you are) but as I'm not earning enough to be bothered about money anyway I'm fine with them taking some for what they give me

I'm sure you can get a lot better contract than that at 100k subs, hell I could get a contract like that and I only have 160!

OP, what kind of videos do you make?

But I'm already making money from ad revenue directly through adsense. I'm a partner, but not with a network.

How exactly would I make more money with a network than without? This is my main concern. I see the networks telling me things like "INCREASE YOUR EARNINGS USING THE ___ NETWORK". But nowhere have I read about how? How do they increase my earnings?

I'd like to stay anonymous, but I can say that it's not the usual gaming, vlogging or sketch channel. It's rather unique.

You can get a better contract than 1 year with an 80/20 split?![DOUBLEPOST=1379604345,1379604298][/DOUBLEPOST]

Networks typically (on popular channels, anyway) have a higher CPM, I believe, but don't quote me on that. If it's gaming you are also safer in a network due to copyright and click-bombing.

They sell premium ads targeted to your niche. This allows them to earn more than generic ads in standard youtube partnership. The other benefit is they can protect you from click bombing/ click fraud.

Are you a gaming channel? Curse/UnionForGamers offer 90/10 split with no lock in so you can leave whenever you want.

Partnership also gives access to partner promotion:

Easily, any reputable network would offer a channel of his size 100% with a 3-4 month contract and only take 3-4% off brand integrations. alot of networks offer tiny channels 80-90% of YouTube revenue (e.g ZoominTV or UnionforGamers)

@OP as I said above, as soon as you get into the 100k subs area, % of YouTube revenue becomes a small issue, from there on, its brand integrations and sponsorships that will bring in the real money, Find a network that will state in the contract that they'll find you with at least 4 a month (you don't have to do all 4, you could only do 1 but atleast you'll have the choice.

I'd say alot of bigger channels may make 2-4 times the revenue of the above and merchandise than they do from normal YouTube player-side ads.

@WrecklessEating would be a good guy to ask on this sort of thing :)

Wait until you get to 100k subs before talking to any network if you're that close.

Does your network offer that percentage for brand deals or preroll ads? Channels around 100k subs do not get 100/0 revenue shares. It's not good business for the channel or the MCN. The same goes for brand integrations. If you ask for 3-4%, it's a very good way to get laughed out of the office and blacklisted.

Brand integrations are great moneymakers, but be very careful about demanding a certain number of them. What you turn down says as much about your channel as what you decide to accept and turning down too many of them because you asked for too many in a contract is the kiss of death for a large channel. You'll either be known as a channel who won't work with advertisers because you turn too many down, or your fans will label you as a sellout because you accepted too many. You need to find balance. Look at other large channels and see how many they do. The ones that 4 per month usually kill their fanbase off very quickly.
