As far as editing goes- don't be afraid of the jumpcut and use of background music. You see a lot of kinda boring gaming videos because they dont cut out downtime or have anything to keep the interest on the video going.
FRAPS is a good tool for game recording. I also heard action! is another. Is it PC games? Agree with the others, that good editing and music is a bonus.
I use game capture card. It depends on console. For example if you have Xbox one & Windows 10 you can stream & record the game to your PC. But I have a few consoles so capture card suited my needs.
