Thumbnails?

Hello,

I came across a few videos on how to get thumbnails without being partnered from them. I saw that most of these required you to monetize your videos to do so. Is there no way around that? I want to be able to make and upload thumbnails because I think it will make people more interested in clicking on my videos. I don't want to monetize just yet. Thumbnails aren't vital, but I thought they may help.

If anyone has any substitute suggestions, please feel free to mention any ideas :)

Why do you not want to monetise your videos in the first instance? If you can, you may as well, and then start with thumbnails also.......

From what I've read around the forums, I'm far too small a channel to start to monetize yet and I'm also a gaming channel. Reading around here at all the monetize horror stories for gaming channels has really put me off it, for now at least.

I'm not too concerned about monetizing videos for now since I'm currently just working on exposure, view count and auidience retention rate. I don't feel they are good enough to warrant it at this moment in time.

You can enable monetization for your channel and just not monetize a video. I believe it still works and you get access to the thumbnails without risking copyright and things like that :)

Oh. Thanks for the info! I'll take a look.

It was the copyright side of monetization that scared me off mainly. I've heard enough things about getting channels shut down and copyright strikes...

Well just be safe about it. That mainly only happens if you upload cut scenes and stuff without permission. Otherwise it perfectly fine :).

Spot on. When yu enable monetization you still get the option of whether you want to monetize each particular video. It doesnt just blanket ads over all videos. Hence just enable monetization and do not monetize each video, hence giving you thumbnails ;)
