Thumbnails not saving

Josh Keatley

I've Got It
50-70% of the time I upload a new video and my thumbnail that I put on does not show up on my video. Every time this happens I use the send feedback button to let them know that I need my custom thumbnail added to my video. I try to fix it by myself sometimes by changing the thumbnail to one of the 3 defaults. Waiting a couple of minutes, then try putting my custom thumbnail back on. No matter what I do it takes a couple hours to days to get my correct thumbnail on.

I never had this problem till they did the huge update on youtube where everybody had to have google+ account. I work so hard on my thumbnails (spending hours sometimes) and I think it really hurts my video views when youtube doesn't have my correct thumbnail on for hours/days later. That is really screwing me out of a lot of views. :-(

Anybody else have this problem? Any suggestions on how to permanently get this problem fixed?

When do you add your thumbnail? While the video uploads, or after it's completed the upload? Any time I try to change my thumbnail after upload is complete, it can take days for it to show up.

I usually upload my thumbnail AFTER the video has fully uploaded and processed, then it takes a few hours for the thumbnail to show up.

I always add my thumbnail while my video uploads/processes. That way my custom thumbnail appears as soon as the video has completed and is live. I don't want to share my video on social media without the custom thumbnail (and I have it set to auto-share once the upload is complete).

I've experienced some delays in the process too, but if I open up another browser and look at the same page without logging in, I can see the thumbnails. It may have to do with caching of thumbnail images in browser and effects your view only, visitors should see the thumbnails as soon as they are added.

I've had this problem a few times, sometimes it actually takes a few days to update a thumbnail. I find uploading one before the video has finished uploading is the best way to do it.

I add my thumbnail while my video is uploading before I hit the save button. It especially happens when I decide I want to change my custom thumbnail then it always takes hours or days for it to change. But recently it is happening to me all the time no matter what. :-(

Sounds like you are hitting some kind of glitch. So far that hasn't happened to me.

I agree with kleineganz that I really like to have my thumbnail on as soon as people see the video and definitely when I share it to social media. That thumbnail can be the deciding factor whether people click or not click on it.[DOUBLEPOST=1397862207,1397861519][/DOUBLEPOST]

Haha! I checked in another browser and it works fine! I looked on facebook and it shows up fine! I think I am going to stop using mozilla firefox. There is so many times I have problems and the browser is the only problem. I'm about to go to chrome or back to internet explorer!

Haha I can stop hitting the feedback button and writing google mad FIX THIS messages! LOL!

THANKS SO MUCH!

Firefox is fine, just don't be paranoid and keep doing things the way you've been doing. Even if you don't see the thumbnail changes, trust YouTube, it's there. Chrome is a good browser too though and I'd recommend it, although stay away from internet exploder.
