Thumbnails changed by themselves a month later!

I've Got It
Hi there, so I've got a bit of a problem which I don't really understand. All the videos on my YouTube channel have a custom thumbnail. For some reason 3 videos have decided to revert back to a YouTube suggested thumbnail, and not the custom thumbnail I chose. So I've left it a day or so, and they didn't change back to what they were supposed to be (I thought it might have been a glitch or something).

This morning I've changed the 3 videos thumbnails back to what they should be (the custom thumbnail) and saved the changes. I've left it a little while and I've checked the videos again (and also checked the channel in an incognito window) and they still haven't reverted back...

I'm just wondering what's going on, and has anybody else had this problem?

Thanks

I had exactly the same thing with one of my videos today. I don't know if my thumbnail was taken down by YouTube or something but I created a new one to make sure everything is in order.

Are You using chrome? It is acting werid with cached images from Youtube. Try opening the developer tools with F12, click the gear icon on the upper right and select "Disable cache (while DevTools is open). And then refresh the page with Your videos. It should show the correct image after that.

Sometimes the thumbnails change but appear unchanged due to cache stored on your browser.
Or else it might take a few days to update but If it takes up to 7 days, then please change to a different thumbnail and then change it back later.

Thanks very much for the reply :) (and to Jawad as well) - I am using Chrome, I've just tried what you said with the F12 thing and turning the cache off in the DevTool thing (nice tip btw, I actually didn't know you could do that!) - When I did that and refreshed my channel page the thumbnails I was referring to had reverted back to the original custom thumbnail. Although for some reason ANOTHER video has changed it's thumbnail (even with the cache thing)...

So anyway I go to do a YouTube search for my video (the ones which have now shown up correctly using the F12 method) and on the YouTube search I used to the F12 method again and the same video showed up with the wrong thumbnail again..

Thoughts? Hope that made sense!

Maybe try uploading the custom thumbnail again and wait until it updates (it can take a while).

The thumbnails seem to be all over the place. Sometimes showing up correctly in incognito windows, other-times not. I've emptied my cache on my browser now the original 3 I mentioned are now showing properly on my 'view as public' channel page. Although they're still not showing properly in the search. Perhaps that's just a time thing.

Although this video that never was an issue last night is now showing incorrectly, even on different browsers, incognito & an emptied cache. Quite odd really. I've had a quick look on Twitter to see if anyone else is experiencing a similar problem and there are other people who are complaining about the same thing in the same time frame as me.

Well custom thumbnails can be really annoying sometimes. Often when I upload a new video I choose a custom thumbnail while the video is still uploading. Everything seems to be fine, but when I publish the video and go to my dashboard, I see that YouTube didn't use that thumbnail and gave it a generic one. I tried different things to prevent that, for example uploading the custom thumbnail after the video is 100% uploaded and processed but it didn't seem to be any difference. It is really frustrating. If someone knows a way around that I would greatly appreciate some info.

Same thing happened to me. One of my custom thumbs changed. I replaced it last night. This morning two more have changed  Luckily I have them saved so I can replace them, but still. Weird.

This happens to me a lot. I really need the custom photo because I do tutorials, and want the thumbnail to be my finished project. It seems like I have to hit a sweet spot. It won't work while I am uploading it, I have to do it immediately after proccessing, but before youtube is able to put up and preselect one for you. If I wait too long it always stays at the preselected rather than updating to the custom one I added.
Very fustrating.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! It's a total pain in the backside isn't it?! Have you tried searching the affected videos in the YouTube search to see if the correct thumbnail appears? Because for me when you view my channel, 3/4 videos have the correct thumbnail, when I search those 3 in the YouTube search then none of them have the right thumbnail... It might just be a time thing. - Have your pictures reverted back yet to the custom one?
