I must agree, and it can be used to bully some as well with the way it can so easily be spammed. What YT should do is remove it, and then people only like if they like it. Wouldn't hurt to at least have a positive spin. At least if nobody 'likes' it, it's better than seeing 50 dislikes or something.

I don't mind dislikes on my older stuff because it was shot with a rubbish camera and a jumpy tripod, I don't need other people to tell me it was crap

I get this on the odd video as well - lots of likes and that one jealous person who dislikes!!!
Just like your own video to counter it

I find the whole Like/Dislike feature to be quite pointless and really should be taken out of the equation when YT decides what gets recommended and what dosnt. But thats my tired view on that.

Dislike trolls are awesome. They're so dedicated and give free views. It's great. That and since dislikes don't harm the search rank, they don't hurt you.

Not sure referring to them as gnomes is correct, although gnomes are pretty awesome.

I don't understand why we need any rating system, why not just have videos and comments. If folks like or don't like something they will always let you know in comments. But that's YouTube.

It's good because there are people who maybe can't read well or write well (or for the most part, speak English given how much of the language dominates). It's a quickie tool to show what you think. But I think Pearl got it right when she said that there should be a request for a reason, at least a couple words.
