Thoughts on youtubes new layout?

I just dislike how it looks. Too much white space and it's off-center. It's like the life is completely drained from it. I liked the grey/black under the video to sort of highlight it, but now everything is white and I feel like nothing is ever highlighted. I do like the idea of the banner having social media and links you can edit. That makes it a lot more simple, but also less creativity. The tag system also seems pretty neat, very excited for that (granted, that has little impact on the actual layout).

1) This isn't about branding your channel, it's about the layout style YouTube changes to, which alters the list of changes the individual can make. In my opinion, we are getting less freedom as far as customization and branding go.

2) There isn't an increase in viewership, it's an increase in subscribers, because you see those random subscribe buttons at the side of your screen. But think about it, how likely are you to watch the videos made by somebody whose channel is posted there? If you just found a video of their or were referred to them by somebody else you watch, you'll be more likely to, since you recognize their image. However, if you just pushed a button, you won't recognize them. Your subscriber count can go up without gaining views. Case in point: I have over 1,500 subscribers, but get maybe 200 views per video. Subscribers =/= viewers.
1. Like I said. You aren't a designer. You have no place to comment. The customization is far better, especially for small channels.

2. I never said they do, but generally speaking, if you gain more subscribers (through recommended videos, not on the side of the page) you will gain more views. I talked to Dunkus at Machinima about it when I signed. If you want to tell me Machinima's statistics are wrong, go ahead, but they aren't. Channels saw views double and subs triple. I see 0 negatives. Ignorance is death.

I agree bigtime with both points you made. There is very little creativity left being that we only get a banner, there is virtually no customisation, and I will add that the new design is blindingly white and a cluster-f*ck! It is a terribly messy design, however, googletube doesn't care at all what we have to say.

In regards to your second point, I will agree that my subs did go up, however, my views remained about the same. More subs does not mean more views.

I know my content is not the greatest, and I am working with several people now to come up with a whole new set of content (my channel will change drastically), but when I picked up over 150 new subscribers and my views didn't grow with it, that tells me that I wasn't getting subbed necessarily for my content.

1) How so? How can they customize it? Like I said organizing playlists is better, and they're allowing more people to use banners, but besides that it seems worse. What else is better? I'm not a designer, but I can understand words. I was able to notice those two things. Why can't you just say what they are, instead of letting me trust the words of other that it's somehow better?

2) Where are these statistics? Machinima is the largest network and they have their noses shoved right up google's a**, so they have an incentive to lie and convince prospective partners that everything is fine. If you link me to some stats, I'd love to look at them.

1. The last sentence has me lost, care to clarify please. As for designs, I can link you to my deviantart, I've done designs on the new layout and it is far better than the current partner banner. The size is increased. Instead of being 900x150 it is now 2120x315. That in itself is a positive.
2. I can't share Partner Newsletters, it's against my contract. Sorry.

1) I wasn't asking for your credentials as an artist; I assumed that you were talented from mentioning it. Why would I question that? What I'm asking is why you said that I just couldn't understand what makes it better? That makes it sound like there's a reason, but I just wouldn't understand, so why bother. I know that the banner is bigger, but that doesn't increase the quality of customization; I've never seen a single person complain about the banners being too small. If anything, this is a neutral impact, because it's solving a problem that nobody really seemed to have. Even if that was a massive good, it's not true that there's no loss, because we've lost the ability to make our own backgrounds. Now it has to be white. I'd say that's a loss in creative output, wouldn't you?

2) I can understand that, but I've seen several people say that their channels have gained large amounts of subs but saw no increase in views. The only people benefiting from this new system are people like TheAmazingAtheist whose videos are being shoved into everybody's newsfeeds. Even if it's true, it's really hard for the common YouTuber with no increase in stats to see it.

1. I was not giving credentials, I was going to give you proof as to the customization. Size increase is a solution. Instead of having customization of the side of the channel, which frankly no one who's partnered uses, they gave you an increase in size. It's an equal trade off. As for the white, I rather that than some person with an ugly multicolor background. It makes the site more professional, more apt to having advertisements and potentially increasing CPMs for all partners. There's the positives.
2. I've heard from many smaller channels who have had view growth, myself included. I guess it depends on who you ask.

I think people need to stop complaining and just realize that it's going to change and move on. Stop spending your time complaining about the layout, and making petitions to stop it. It's going to change no matter how much you complain about it.
