Thoughts on youtube titles.

My newest video is called "a zest for gaming" how ever in the title bar it's not like that at all, and is basically a long search term. But it works as it ranked #3 when I used that generic search term this morning!

Maybe videos can have 2 titles? The search title and the "real" artistic title

I usually do Game Name [what video is about]. Example: Gods of Olympus [Defense Strategy]

Every term in the title should be something someone would naturally search for. MY thumbnail is where I can be more creative. I can say something like "The King of Defense" or "Best Defense Ever!" No need for the thumbnail and the title to say the exact same thing.

I feel like the title of a video does play a role on whether or not it gets viewed at all. Thumbnails play a larger roll but with YouTube titles I feel like they need care.

having a clever title is key but you don't want to make it too long.

My current formula is

[Game] - [Title] - [Episode]
eg. Fallout: New Vegas - STIMPAKS GALORE - #7

Well there are many opinions about the importance of the title. Someone thinks that it hasn't much impact on the SEO, and others say that it is really important. But I think that you should not cripple your videos titles only to make them SEO-focused because the title, in my opinion, must be something unique like your video (because every single video made by every single person is unique in is own way). Personally I use the template *Original name* | Game Name Let's Play part number and I don't know if it damages or not the visibility of my video but I'm ok in this way, I guess.

Thats good for keeping them searchable and organized, i still prefer a more artistic way ! I just wish I could!!

BEHOOOOOOOOOLD the truth about titles !

You have two way of building a good title :

- Long, detailed and SEO-friendly
or
- Exciting, short, pretty and clickable (clickbait? maybe a little bit)

The first one let you ride on the SEO train and rock of thoses keywords ! In SEO, the term you want to rank for MUST be the first one. (ex: FALLOUT 4 - A game of gun gameplay/lets play/playthrough - SECRET ENDING)

You will rank for the fallout 4 and fallout 4 gameplay, fallout ending etc... (of course, there is a lot more things to do and learn to achieve this /description/tags/etc)

The second one is more tricky, and you have to think... yeah I know who does that amiright ? You have to compose under 50 letters a very good and pretty title.
(ex: BEST ENDING EVER ! (Fallout 4) ) notice how the game name is still in the title.

Well there is no right way to do it, but as you can see it is a tad tricky... (no way captain obvious)

For instance, I use the long form SEO friendly when it is a subject that is not usually on my channel. It helps to reach some new people. As for my current subs they know what I am going to show them, so the title is just to give them a hint!

I used to think adding your channel name to the title would be a good idea, but now I'm unsure. Does it maybe put some people off clicking on your video if they haven't watched one of your videos before?

I guess it depends on how well known you are if its off putting or not
