Thoughts on YouTube rival, Vessel?

Vessel did a pre launch today. From the look of their background they've attracted some big talent. vitalydztv, Connor Franta, Rhett and Link, Machinima. $2.99 per month. $50 CPMs.

If I understand correctly they have also a "free" version with a little bit more ads on it. But still the ads revenue share will be 70% for the content creator vs 55% (YouTube). I think this is excellent opportunity for big channels with real original content (not the product placements one).

Yep. Released 3 days on their pid subscription and then releases on their free service with advertising attached. I hope a lot of really good new content comes out of this.

I applied but haven't heard anything yet. I'm not sure I'm the type of content they desire. But then again, 14 MM views a month could be some interesting traffic. My concern is the language of the information so far. It appears that the $50 CPM is during "early window" which may only be a few days. What is it after that?

I think they will favor the larger channels then trickle down from there. Hence all the press with bigger named channels. If you have been to a VidCon or Playlist, etc, and see the power they have over their audience, it makes sense that people would pay. People stand in line & pay to take a picture with them, they will pay a few $ a month to see their videos first.

I'm curious to see how this plays out. I see they've gotten some big names which will definitely make people pay attention. I'm still wondering though if the younger audiences without credit cards and without their parents' help will be able to take part and if not, then will Vessel really work?[DOUBLEPOST=1418918908,1418918875][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, even if the viewer has paid for the subscription, there will still be ads. Maybe less but there will still be ads.

I'll probably pop on and try it once it releases just because I'm interested. Looking at the background pic again this morning I noticed Epic Meal Time, Good Mythical Morning, Arden Rose, Brittani Louise Taylor and Shane Dawson. I'm interested to see if the audience transfers over, it'll be the first real test if audiences will shift to a new video platform. Makes me nervous for YouTube because they'd potentially be losing some of their biggest talent, excited because it'd pull out the bigger stars and leave room for growth of some mid-sized channels on the platform.

I'm very skeptical, and I know I'm not the only one. A huge draw of youtube is the community aspect, and I doubt most people will want to even sign up for a new site.

I honestly don't see how anyone can be stupid enough to pay to see a YouTube video. Not even if it was exclusive ONLY on vessel. On top of that, releasing it three days later in YouTube for free anyway... If vessel does become huge it really shows how stupid people are.

Worse off eventually google/YouTube is gonna realize 'well if people are dumb enough to pay for it on that website wtf are we letting them show it for free on our website for???'

That will just suck. This might start the end of just kicking back and watching a cat play a piano for free.
