youtube are once again testing the ability to see a preview of the video by hovering over the thumbnail

see the video to see it in action https://vid.me/byo6

does this change anything? will it change the way you make videos at all? does it help stop a little of the clickbait thumbnails and titles? i would be interested in your thoughts

I think they might implement that feature so in the future. Dailymotion already have that feature.

It might help with viewer retention, since it may cause fewer people to click on videos that weren't about what they thought they were about.

On the flip side, it may mean fewer views in total, for exactly the same reason.

I wonder if it will count as a view? Or will they tack it separate as pre views?
it won't be a view or a pre view. its just an advanced thumbnail that gives you a little more info before you view

agree with both your points. might get a little less clickbait. but also might make people less inquisitive to check out a video if they don't like the preview images that pop up

I think that's awesome. I'd like it, but as mention previously it would ruin all those who click bait that's for sure.

I don't want to sound all doom and gloom, but it will just still be as bad as it is now. It will either be random part of the video, therefore not representitive of the video, or it will be a certain point in the video that is know so people will abuse the system. If it is random, how cheesed off would you be if they spoilered the best part of your video like a grand reveal. In fact that would be funny, I hope that happens to people.

It's good to see they are trying, but it will not solve the issue unfortunately. Nothing will until dislikes count towards search results and promotion as they should, negatively.

i don't know why they didn't do it sooner, it's a good feature to have and smaller video platforms have this. It will be good to combat click bait also like said above.
