Thoughts on the adpocalypse 2020?

realistically, how many of us are going to be making money off of ads? I really dont care. I dont make YT videos for money I do it for fun. A lot of people freak thinking they will get a million subscribers and the truth is, many of us wont and 80% of people freaking about ad revenue will quit within a year bc... well they are on YT hoping to make money.

if youtube was all free based, meaning no1 gets money I would still upload videos. really dont care. I just like having small fans. hate to break it to most people, but someone I am subbed to has around 300k subscribers and admitted he makes under 200$ a month on ad revenue. His money comes from people that come out to visit him for rides and rentals. yet alone many of us will never even reach the 100k mark. so I could really care less

It's not about the ads - many/most people would be fine if YT removes just that. It's the effective removal from the platform. If you mark your videos "Made for kids", they don't get displayed on Homepage, suggestions, recommended and search + you lose comments & other features. People have even reported that their videos are no longer displayed on Google either.
YouTube's bots clearly can't differentiate between animated videos for adults and kids, as has been proven already. Kids channels are effectively gone from the platform come 2020, because YouTube doesn't want to reduce their profit margins by developing new systems to accommodate for these channels.

I make pocket change from YT ads, but my Patreon income is quite relevant and I'd be in trouble without it - YouTube feeds 700-800 visits to my Patreon page every month and it's slowly growing. I am not actually that worried any longer for my channel because I literally record myself talking over a bunch of Word files and text-filled database websites, so the bots don't see any toys/anime/cartoons in my videos and just leave them be. And even though my channel's tiny in size compared to others in my niche, seeing how YouTube's willing to throw big creators under the bus like it's none of their business, I'm seriously thinking about funneling my viewers into a private email list or spreading my social platform presence. I kinda planned to do it anyway once my YT grows a bit more, but seeing all this mess, I'll probably start diversifying my online portfolio way sooner than I wanted.

Youtube make tons of money on kids content. I don't see how they could just drop it. Market doesn't like empty space so it will be covered by someone. Youtube is basically monopolist when it comes to quick, wide kids content. If all this content dissapear it needs to appear somewhere else. Imagine in the 2020 it won't be possible to find Baby shark on YouTube. It will be uploaded somewhere else. And the creators will try to continue making money.. Question is will Youtube stop kids content creators to fly away by developing and making yt kids app and website big enough. How will they do it? No idea... Right know it's basically dead. And still it's impossible to make money there.

I doubt this very much, but even if it were true, it is neither here nor there. Whether you want to make money on YouTube or not is really of importance either. To some (like you) it is just a hobby and that is fine. But there are many good people that want to earn money by doing something they love, and there is nothing wrong with that either. Plus, this has nothing to do with whether you want to make money or not. ALL channels are in danger, monetized or not.

Try to understand this. "Everything must be paid for!". Nothing in life is free, no matter how much some political candidates preach that things should be. You can only produce content for free if you are making a living somewhere else. Like it or not, ADS are the way online content is offered for free to the consumer. It is not free to produce or to host. Content creators, whether YouTubers or Android app designers, need to make a living. They can charge for their work, or they can offer them as ad-supported products for free. That is just the way the world turns baby. The only other way people will work for free is if you turn them into slaves and put a gun to their heads like they do in North Korea.

All these "Do gooders" that keep trying to indicate that people should just produce out of the "Goodness of their heart", should try living in a communist country for a year.

Even if it does not matter to you, you should stand and fight for other YouTubers rights. Do you know what Jim Bowie and Davi Crockett have in common? Both of them died at the Alamo defending Texas, but neither of them were from Texas.

Baby Shark shouldn't be on YouTube to begin with. That's what YouTube Kids is for.

There are only two solutions to this problem for YT. 1. Move all kid's content to YouTube Kids and off of YouTube Main. 2. Create an Age Gate where you are required to be logged in to an over 13 years account to watch all non-kids directed content.

Right now, YouTube kids is not that big, but if all the kid's content was moved over there, it would explode over night. Parents use Youtube kid's content as an E-baby sitter and they will not stop, just because it is moved to YT Kids

Ok, let's assume YT Kids will become big over night. And now every kid creator is there. But since there are no personalized ads, the creators have very limited incomes. So does YouTube. So nobody wins except FTC. I assume creators would want to look for another platform that somehow solve this age issue and let the creators make money. So YouTube should act fast and offer their solution. In September CEO Susan Wojcicki said YouTube will put $100M to invest in original kids content. Pretty vauge statement. She planned to share some more info, but it's almost December and we still now nothing more.

Here is an interesting question. Lets say everyone who makes lego videos who couldn't earn the revenue they needed anymore on YouTube put the video up on patreon could that person legally earn more income from patreon supporters with the youtube embed video or would that be collecting the same data?

You're not collecting any data by embedding a video. You're not even collecting it when you upload it to YouTube. And surely you don't collect any kids data on patreon - you have to be at least 18 to participate in supporting an author right?
