Thoughts on religion?

I dislike how religion is often used to validate an action or person to somehow make it seem better... My general rule is to base someone's worth on their action and not what they claim to be.

"Oh, I'm Catholic" ... *sells drugs on the side*
"I'm Buddhist" ... *talks poo about someone behind their back*

I really don't care what people believe, and I truly respect them for believing what they do. However, I expect the same respect back. And I do not go around telling people that I don't believe in anything, heck I don't even tell people I get to know that I'm gay. No person at work knows it... why? Because it's just not a thing that's needed. It's my thing, I share it with those who need, no one else.
So, as long as religious people accept, and respect others, I don't waste 2 seconds thinking about it.

However, if people are talking about their religion all the time, or using that religion to limit my life. Then with all due respect. F off.

I don't like to call my self atheist , because people treat not having a religion as a religion of not having a religion. I just prefer to be away from nutters and not take on any religious view. Hate the word atheist.
So you're unaffiliated basically? If so, the word you're looking for is 'agnostic'.[DOUBLEPOST=1386816873,1386816610][/DOUBLEPOST]I'm personally an atheist. I don't really think that most or any religions are correct because there have been too many things that just don't make or were proven wrong. If part of the basic ideals are incorrect, what's not to say the rest is as well? I don't, however, deny the possibility of the existence of a god. It's just that, as of now, there is not enough concrete evidence to make me believe that a god does in fact exist.

I feel like the only reason that religion exists at all is just to give a reason to live life. To give it an objective. It's just because people saw life as pointless, and they didn't like that, so they took up someone else's ideas.

You have to be really careful on how you go about this because religion is a very touchy subject and if you aren't careful people can get offended and you might lose the respect of your viewers and lose subscribers no matter what religion they are. It's an interesting idea, but if I were you I wouldn't do it.

But high risk can potentially yield high reward. :)

My biggest problem with religion is that many people take anecdotal evidence as proof. People say they have afterlife experiences all the time, then again people say they have been abducted by aliens, or that they can read minds, or that that hedge fund is perfectly safe, but there is no concrete evidence that aliens have ever been here - in fact it might be impossible, studies have shown that people cannot read minds and that hedge fund has dissapeared and a fat cat got fatter.

I'm not saying that there is no god or anything like that, I'm agnostic in that regard, I wouldn't rule it out. Its just that there are no arguments that lead to evidence or proof of god. In fact I believe that's the whole point really, to have pure faith, to believe blindly.

I agree with Jessica on churches though, they are about money and control for the most part, there are probable some good churches out there but in general they are, or at least I think sometimes they are, a tool that people use to manipulate people by using their basic desire to be not dead.

The idea of not being dead after you are dead is a heck of a motivator and when you reward yourself with that comfort every time you think a faithful thought then you can become prey for those evil and imaginative enough.

Sorry, I do respect religious people, and I have a terrible fear in the back of my head that I'm gonna get dead and there'll be god shaking his head at me.

I was born & raised in a very Catholic family (I even went to Catholic school). However, in college I started having doubts about the religion. My family is not very happy that I no longer attend church & don't tell people I'm a Catholic but this is what I believe:

I believe that the universe, God, and everything about those things is so beyond what we can comprehend, that no one has (or ever will) get it exactly right. Religions are used to make people feel better & sometimes even give meaning to their lives which makes me not completely dislike them. However, I don't find comfort in organized religions because none of them (I feel) has it exactly right. I believe there's a God or else, how did everything even get here? I believe that we will never know what happens after we die but I know there's something. Humans find discomfort in the unknown and that's kind of why religions exist, to comfort us and tell us that if you're a good person you will go to heaven. I find comfort in the unknown though because I choose to believe there is something much bigger and more amazing after death then a human's perception of what heaven is. Also, any written testaments for any religion bothers me when people follow it blindly. Taking the word of men who lived so long ago is not my idea of something worth believing, especially when a lot of their written word matches the lifestyle back then and not what it has grown to be. (slaves, women being sub-servant to men, etc.)

(Sorry if that was too deep. Haha.)

I'm not sure what I qualify as, but I do know that I'm not a specific religion. I never went to church as a kid, and mom never really made me pray to god until recently. I do infact believe God does exist, but even just talking about it with my mom makes me feel weird. So that's me, I'm not part of any religion, but I do believe in God.

I really don't care about what anybody else does. They're doing their own thing, and that's cool with me. I'm not gonna hate or whatever because a certain person is this religion. It's crazy to me that people take these things so seriously. BUT! That's from an outsider looking in.
