Thoughts on 'donation' button

As someone else said, it's not like people are being forced to donate or anything, so I don't see much issue with it. I think the reality of it though is that most people aren't gonna end up donating really, I've had a donation button on my channel for a few months, and I'm decently sized I'd say, and haven't gotten any donations :P

It is people's choice to donate to keep a channel alive, so they would expect it to go to the channel unless otherwise mentioned. Nothing wrong with donations in order to produce better quality content for the people who donated :D :)

They might assume that, but it could only be from past experience and their not paying enough attention. If a donation button says 'please donate to me' and you assume that it means all donations will only go toward the channel, that's not the fault of the person who placed the donation button. There's a strange perception that people see a donation button like going out on the street and begging, but it's not. It's more like a performer who asks for donations at the end of their performance, or a public figure who asks for support for their ongoing campaign, there's nothing at all wrong with it.

i like your choice of words, well said! :D

I agree, depends on if you actually need the money, a lot of people do YouTube primarily for money and they try to milk every penny out of it, in those cases it's normally pretty obvious and a donation button just makes you look greedy. But if you need it for supplies or for a charitable cause I see no issue with it.
