Thoughts on commenting on other videos?

I think it very well could increase traffic to your channel. Since you're commenting on other people's videos, you're getting your channel out there in a public manner.

I leave genuine comments on channels I am subbed to. No idea if this leads to me receiving subs to my own?
My Thumbnail/YT name/Description are all clear so perhaps my popular comments may lead to a few clicking on my channel?

Eh it doesn't do anything in my experience. It might give maybe 1% traffic but i like doing it, I get to engage with my favorite content creators and they actually talk back to me sometimes.

While the potential engagement is an added value, I prefer to comment on videos of people that I know are likely to reply in a meaningful way, it's nice to have back and forth conversation with people that share my interests.

Simple question, what is your thoughts on commenting on YouTube videos? does it raise traffic to your channel?
Based on personal experience, it does raise a little traffic. I've commented on a lot of other small youtuber channels and the next day, the youtubers I've visited actually checked out my videos and left comments.

Just be careful with your words.

If you comment saying, "Hey love your personality! sub 4 sub?"
Then they will most likely ignore you.

Even saying, "Great video! If you have time, I also own a channel if you want to check it out.", is not a good way to get their attention.

I always steer away from asking them to check me out. Just drop hints that you own a channel. And also, actually check their video out. It's not that hard to do.

"I really thought this video was helpful. Now I know what products to buy next time! I really enjoyed this video and hope to see more from you. Keep it up! Also, what editing software do you use?"
- Yes, it's a little bit of a lengthy reply... but it's genuine and it doesn't seem like you're begging for views.

I wouldnt do it too much, instead I would spend that time MAKING better videos and promoting them on social media like Twitter and Facebook instead! get a Wrodpress blog and write an article about each of your videos and re-share those articles on Twitter and Facebook etc , it will double your views! people will begin to comment later on when you become big!

I tried this before but it doesn't help my channel rank or get traffic from commenting in other videos. Even if my comment was not about promoting my channel because I hate spamming so, I don't really do this. Maybe I did it wrong or maybe because my username is obviously about cooking so people think I am spamming or I was just lazy to comment. I can comment 2 or three and nothing more.
