This Very Moment!

Yeah OPs comment is pretty solid. I still look at my numbers and watch them, mostly so I can learn about them and how analytics works and everything. I understand though when you pour all your energy into a video and only get a handful of views it can be a bit of a bummer, but that's why you've got to keep pushing forward and having fun, at least imo.

What if Analytics was a feature that got unlocked at 1,000 subscribers?
Hah I can't stop laughing!

I can see it now. "It's not fair cry cry, this 1000sub barrier is keeping me from being a millionaire by playing games because they only help the big guys"

Though if you got no views, there's nothing to look at! "Ooh! My vlog about how many times my cat threw up got 2 views this month!" Anyway....

I get your point, i agree, and definitely think this post Is well written!
but I'd rather people didn't view them as numbers anyways. Views are people, subscribers are people, and you can't predict em!
it's great if you can not get down over sub losses, but it's not just a number drop.

here's how I like to think of it:
we can't blame people for being wishy washy sub and unsub etc., think of all the channels you watched on TV for about 2 minutes and thought "bah rubbish" and changed it over. Did you ever think of how that might affect the feelings of the video creator? Nope. BUUUT you also didn't intend to offend anyone either, it simply didn't interest you and you moved on.
subscribers are real people (when they're not bots haha) and they move on and their tastes can change. We need to stop thinking immediately that we've done something wrong when people do leave our channels, it'll happen. But also it's not bad to be happy when new folks come along! Doesn't matter how long they stay for it's nice to have new faces to entertain/inform.
personally I don't see any problem with being excited with goals, just think of them as temporary viewers for now, they'll stay as long as they feel, and if they leave that's ok, they've already given us some of their time and views and that's great.

Ps, what's wrong with analytics, it's like the coolest gadget ever. You can see where people come from, how long they watch, age ranges, gender, everything! I just think that's amazing! I don't feel ashamed to check up on them a lot to see them go up and down and round and round. I'm grateful YouTube give us these indepth insights!

How's about stop telling people how they should feel about making content, it's called projection. Analytics are important, and of course people new to the game are going to frett over small numbers, they'll desensitise after prolonged exposure.

If you love making your content that's an absolute bonus and genuinely good for you. Others enjoy the result of their hard work which in the moment may not be fun. Deferring gratification is a helluva drug

I'm a bit older than the average YouTuber, so I'm still a little in awe of the fact that I can make a movie and have people from anywhere in the world potentially watch it. I've also been doing theater for so long and in so many small spaces that I remember that a video with 100 views would mean a sold out audience for 2 nights in a venue that I've had some of my plays in.

Yes, it can be discouraging when you don't think you're getting the attention that all your hard work seems to warrant, but remember that it's still amazing that we have a platform for sharing all of this, and it's totally free to use, and in fact, there's the possibility to make some money on it.

There's nothing wrong with analytics and I'm not really saying you should ditch looking at 'em or anything. It's just that people shouldn't be too obsessed with it and panic when they have a decrease in subs or views. :)[DOUBLEPOST=1468337192,1468337053][/DOUBLEPOST]

I'm not telling anyone how they should feel. And I partly agree with what you're saying but it's that some people are (in my opinion) a li'll too obsessed with the numbers than instead of looking at the moment where they are now. Looking at what they've got and to not go crazy if they notice a slight change in their numbers. Ofcourse it's good to keep an eye on it.[DOUBLEPOST=1468337254][/DOUBLEPOST]

That is very true xingcat! There's so many cool stuff that we completely seem to forget!

It wasn't aimed at you personally, just more at when people say emphatically "just do it for the fun!"

He speaks the truth! You will never get anywhere if all you care about is numbers. I've seen small channels give up because they didn't get 100 or 1000 subscribers in a months time. It is very unlikely for that to happen. Just try to enjoy yourself. Think of it as your favorite hobby, not a chore.
