This new channel thing is rough

Just wondering if a new set of eyes that aren't my own may see something I'm not. I decided to use a new channel for just my music when I realized the audience on my main one wasn't interested in songs (3K views or less in 6 months on some of my covers vs. 10K+ in days on an animation). Despite good reception in the comments-I figure the views and likes spoke for themselves in terms of what my demographic enjoy watching, hence moving music to a new channel.

Alas it's been a rough start. My animation channel got its start from some of my early cartoons getting popular in niche communities. I feel like the more saturated world of music isn't presenting that opportunity (unless I animate music videos-which I plan on but I certainly don't want to take away from my main one right this minute/fall stuck into the same niche already). Despite over six years of YouTube, I'm finding myself a noob again when it comes to the SEO, promotion, and branding of the music channel. Advertising it on my main one has given me some semblance of a start but overall I'm left wondering if I'm making the wrong choice.

Of course all this a little moot considering I haven't even made a trailer or more than three uploads on that channel yet, but what I'm wondering is-did I give up on music with my main channel too early? Should I stick it out on the 5K sub/6 million view channel instead of start from scratch with the new one?

I dunno, I'm a musical theatre baritone of some six active years, a beatboxer of 13 years, and it'd make me so happy to utilize on YouTube (especially seeing how well received the latter can be and how burned out I can become on just doing animation). Alas, something's not clicking. I'm going to keep uploading for the remainder of June/most of July and see what happens before I make an ultimate decision but maybe someone's been through similar.
 
Well I'm having a similar poblem but on a much lower scale. I have two channels where the first i made i did almost everything in swedish but decided i wanted a fresh start with a channel in english instead. It was really a step down as only a few subs followed along to the new channel. What I've done is I linked videos and playlists from my new channel on my old channel and vice versa so my old subs got the new content and so that the new channel wasn't so content staved the first weeks.
Regarding if you should stay with your old channel or create a new i find it better to create a new to break the bonds with old sins and having a clean slate to work with.

7.1 million views on your animation channel is nothing to sneeze at.
The few videos I watched were great! Reminds me of my Saturday morning shows.

I think it is smart to have 2 separate channels because they are separate facets of your brain. The animation channel is for art students and people that enjoy indie comics or are looking to break into the business. Seeing how you've done it gives them hope and inspiration. Maybe feature a few "how to" videos or a behind-the-scenes look at how you went from concept to finished project?

If music is your ultimate passion, you should pursue ways to grow the channel. Keep your expectations low and you'll be much happier with the results. Develop a weekly routine (a few hours a week or whatever you can muster). Stay dilligent and don't waver. You obviously know how to get views and subs, man. The numbers on your first channel speak for themselves.

Promote the music channel on the animation side.
Promote the animation channel on the music side.

Maybe promote both channels from just 1 twitter. Talk about the "sister" channel, etc. Find ways to get the viewers to engage in what you are doing? Have polls on Facebook, Tweet what you are listening to on your channel. Tweet new uploads, whatever.

You don't want to alienate your animation peeps by forcing them to watch/see stuff they didn't sign up for, but you can definitely mention it at the end of a video or in your About sections. Subtle, "check out our new channel" stuff.
