This is when you start a new channel

Eternal Pig

The Baconator
Long, but a good story. I had a channel with 291 subscribers and 70,000 views in a year. I had to kill my channel and make a new one because it was a ghost town. What I mean by ghost town is, good content, but very little engagement. The reason why this happened was due to the fact that 99% of my subscribers were gamers. So I started a YouTube channel with my cousin as gamers. We simply started as gamers, but then wanted to do it all. This is where it went downhill. We had gaming, food, vlogs and my specialty, skits. I thought I could have treated it like a journal/collection of all the things I like. You can, but you have to be established first. Most of you know this, when it comes to YouTube you have to be consistent. So if my specialty is comedy skits then who is going to watch? I put a ton of effort into my videos then gamers come by and say, "another good video", "this is good bro", you know the same generic comments. It'll be like that for every video lol Also please don't get confused, I am not blaming no one but myself. I use gamers because they were the ones that watched me and I thanked them all for everything before I left the channel. I had a theory that once you treat your channel like the way I did, YouTube sends you to the gutter. I mean not one new soul found my skits. I kept getting love on gaming videos though because that was the foundation of my channel I guess. So all I'm saying is, make sure you know exactly what you're doing before starting YT. I now have a new channel and know exactly what I'm doing. I record all my videos in two days then schedule them. I'm also talking to the right people in the proper niche. If you find yourself with a dead channel then reevaluate it thoroughly. I've seen about eight gamers that I was cool with quit in a year all because they were doing what everyone else was. How do you expect to grow? A quote from a DM I received, "don't feel bad, I have 168 subs in 3 years with no breaks lol"..hmm I wonder why. Hopefully this helps someone.

The above is only true if you use YouTube as a measurement tool for personal worth. If you do it for fun than it's all good. I do what I want to do on my Channel. I did CarVlogs first, then added Car Shows, went to an and put some Air Show footage in there and have some Car Reviews. Just have fun.

See, but you kept it all car related. I was doing it for fun and not for money or anything else really. You just can't tell people, hey guys today I give you food reviews. Then next week I got you with comedy and PC gaming. Keep it all in the same realm until you have people that watch you because they like you. Thanks for reading.

Some people use YouTube to make a "channel", as in their goal is to create engaging and entertaining content of a given variety and ideally will attract an audience. Some people just use YouTube as a dumping ground for whatever the heck they feel like doing.

Which side of the fence you fall on will greatly affect pretty much everything you do related to your videos.

Pretty much man. To do what you like and get some honest feedback you have to know what you're doing. I watched your trailer and it's very effective. If you can incorporate more hair waxing and unique things like that into your videos then man I see you going far. Plus you have the Rift which really helps.

But that is how many people DO watch channels, because of the person, be they a Vlog, gamer or niche interest. You might as well have a robot doing a channel if you totally ignore the individual behind it.

Just my thoughts - no harm intended! ;)

I agree, but at first I had no personality. It was basically do every gaming video like every other gamer out there. Eventually I found myself and people did watch me for me. For example, my Sunday vlogs got love because they liked my stories and those always got genuine feedback. "no harm intended!" -- don't worry, I'm a pig with no feelings.

Exactly, that is the toughest part - to get people to want to share the same space/time in their day with one or more of a channel's videos. I've probably gone over-the-top (from an outsider's view) in many rant videos so people will only probably hear me once and never return (never seeing my LP vids).

Then again, I want to be realistic about who I am. I see my channel as it's me, who happens to be a gamer. ;)

I will never watch an LP in my life only because I rather play the game. I tried watching them but I just can't man...and you're onto something with Philosophy Friday. That makes you a different gamer lol

I can totally understand not watching gaming when you could be doing it yourself. I do follow a few LPers on YouTube, just small channels who entertain consistently.

Those Friday things are quick and easy to do - just trying something every now and then. I can be deep in under a minute! :P
