This App would like to manage your YouTube Account

I was about to apply to join a Network but was faced with the choice of having to accept the Network using an App to check into my account. It looked pretty intrusive. One of the requests was to be able to 'manage my youtube account'. The 'i' stated -

View and manage your videos and playlists

View and manage your YouTube activity

Is this normal/standard procedure? Seems a little risky to me but this is my first rodeo so I don't know.

Thanks in advance.

Perfectly normal, the manage your YouTube account is I believe so they have permission to link your channel to their networks Adsense.

It is a standard procedure since networks need info and statistics (statistics that aren't available to anyone else usually) on your video to make sure you meet their criteria in views, type of videos you make, viewer demographics, copyrighted content and make sure you're not botting.

No this would be on the application form he means, this permission means they can view what videos you have in what playlists but also view things like were you have commented, liked, favourite, viewed etc.

None of which a network would really need.

Thanks for that, I thought he was on about something similar to what Pentra has posted.

This is what I get when applying for MakerGen (RPM).

Thats what I had in mind for what he was talking about there.

That is what he means :p But it's not needed to link a channel in any way, networks use an API connection to pull details on application, like viewership numbers, demographics etc. (Google actually requires this also from MCNs as of recent to ensure that channels applying are actually who they say they are and not someone filling in a form for someone else)

The question is why they need permission like the ones the OP quoted as they seem fairly intrusive and un-necessary.

Oh okay got you, I'm sure I have seen networks with "manage my youtube account" in theirs before, the others I am unsure of now. In fact I am pretty sure Fullscreens said that at one point. I could be wrong and thinking of another site using the API here and mixing it up, its been a while :D

Yup its normal for a network to do, how else are they going to check you meet the requirements. If they went by word of mouth everyone would be partnered. Much more than subscriber count and views they go through.

Nobody said anything about checking for views and subs, it was the fact that they are asking to look at things like viewing habits, likes, favourites and comments.
Why would a network need any of that information..
