Thinking of good keywords/tags....

Over-tagging?
It sounds like an idea sprung out from over-optimization, which can give a negative penalty on websites. Never heard of it on YouTube, or any other tagging platform for that matter. Now, obviously, you shouldn't repeat the same tags over and over again (aka: "golden bananas, golden banana, golds banana, banana golden, banana gold, gold, gold, gold, banana, banana, banana").

Making variations of the same tag, and making tags centred around the same keyword, is not the same thing as basically posting the same tag over and over again. Keep in mind that tags can be phrases, not just single words.

So, at least according to me, use as many tags as possible (or rather, use the full amount of allotted space you can, don't just focus on having >more< tags).

Out of curiosity, what did you put into ubersuggest? I've had pretty decent luck with it.

No, I just put terms that are not that popular. It's working now :) So, I got this video: The Walking Dead Game Tribute Song | ORIGINAL TRIBUTE SONG | A Song About The Walking Dead..... The tags I put: the walking dead game, the walking dead theme song, let's play the walking dead, clementine and lee tribute, music for the walking dead, a song for the walking dead, a song about the walking dead, the walking dead game soundtrack, telltale games, tribute song, original tribute song, clementine, lee, tribute, the walking dead music video.... (and so forth) Are these good tags? It actually ranks me no.5 when I type: the walking dead tribute song

The last bit of your title "A song about the walking dead" is something I would be a lot more cautious about, really smells of over optimization. I mean, you already said it in the first part of the title!

I would remove the following tags, and replace them with something more appropriate:
let's play the walking dead, clementine and lee tribute, the walking dead game soundtrack, telltale games, clementine, lee,

Since you don't mention clementine and lee in the title, I would use better tags instead.
Lets play and soundtrack isn't actually what the video is about, so again, I would use more appropriate tags.
telltale games is a "wasted" tag - you're not going to rank for it, just by having that one tag randomly in there, so might as well replace it with something better.

If you wish to keep clementine and lee in there (your song might actually be about them), then I would make sure to include that in your title, like:

"The Walking Dead Game Tribute Song | ORIGINAL TRIBUTE SONG | Clementine and Lee Love Song" (or whatever, haven't played the game).
But personally, I would centre more about what keyword you want to go for:
Clementine and Lee? The Walking Dead? Tribute Song? Walking Dead Tribute Song?

I jumped into the Google Keyword Tool, just to get a rough idea of what is being searched for, and the only one that's really worth it, is "the walking dead song", so I would suggest you focus on that one, for the most views.

Last, checking your own videos rankings, aren't reliable. YouTube search is fairly personalized, so it's likely you won't see the same result others are seeing.

Thank you! This was some really good advice :)

Having 40 tags is much worse than having 8 highly relevant tags. If you made a music video, it'd be better to tag "music video" and "music", "video" rather than everything possibly pertaining to music, singing, tv, etc. That or you could just dominate a certain search that isn't so sought after like "Justin Timberlake Mirror Karaoke" for example.

Actually, over-tagging is definitely an issue. Google will prioritize a few on subject keywords over a ton of generalized ones. I used to add a ton of generalized keywords to my own videos, but when I started narrowing down the list to under 10, I started to see significant increases in search views.

I think we're talking about two different things here. Keywords and tags aren't the same thing. Focusing on a few keywords, isn't the same as having a few tags.
As I explained above in this thread, generalized keywords shouldn't exist in your tags at all. Your tags should be focused around 1-3 keywords at most. Using all the tags available to you, doesn't mean that you should start putting in generalized stuff suddenly.

There is also value in tagging every video with your YouTube channel username and if you have a particular series title that you use, tagging the seris with that name as well. This improves the liklihood of your own videos showing up as the suggested videos on the right side as well as after the video has finished in the player itself. This should only consume 2 of the many tags you can use on each video. It's also beneficial to ensure that you're using a series title that isn't used by other people, so be creative.

Well, true I am more speaking to tags here, albeit the difference between keywords and tags is negligible at best. I guess I have always found that between 5-10 video specific tags have been the best result getter. Too low and it gets passed over, and too many and it gets to watered down. 1-3 I would definitely say is way too minimal for most videos.

Btw Cool channel. Haha I'm a little bit of an Otaku myself. Its actually a goal of mine to eventually learn Japanese and create some unique videos in Japan.
