I think people realized that there were people "making it big" on youtube and since there is no rule as to who can and can't youtube, a bunch of *coughteenagerscough* decided that they wanted to give it a shot, thinking youtube was some magical wand that would bring them fame, attentions, and money. I mean the partnership program is nice in that it rewards the great content creators and allows them to do it for a living (and afford the recourses to make even better content) However it also causes a massive flood of newcomers thinking they can get a piece of the pie. But like some of you said, people come and go. The ones who are there just for fame, attention and money don't end up sticking around when they find out they won't get instant results/gratification and they eventually fade away. But the ones doing it purely for the enjoyment of creating usually stick around longer because they aren't as obsessed with the numbers, but are doing it because they want an interactive creative outlet.
I've been around youtube for about 6 years, so I've seen a lot of people come and go. The people that have consistently stuck around are the ones that are the most genuine. Anyways, thats my two cents.
I couldn't have said it better myself
I too have been around youtube for years and have also seen the people that are here just for fame come and go
