The process of becoming a youtube star?

Yes, exactly.

You should make videos you WANT to make. Otherwise, you'll come across as disingenuous. That's how I decide what I want to talk about in my videos, whether it's something I really want to do a video on.

That doesn't mean you can't combine what you want to do with what is popular to get views though. Timing is a big thing when it comes to getting views, which is why I did a reaction/thoughts video on the Jurassic World trailer. I put that video out the day the trailer came out and it got a lot of traction, but I did it because I absolutely LOVE Jurassic Park, it's my favorite movie franchise (and why I have the nickname of Paleo 'cause I love Paleontology ;P)

I did do a couple more videos on trailers with the new Star Wars and Terminator trailers since the Jurassic World one went over well, but I didn't do one on the new Mad Max trailer, why? 'Cause I'm not really interested in it. The others are movies I'm interested in seeing when they come out and plan on doing a vlog on them.
Trailer reactions, that's the most general sounding however surprisingly unique channel type. When I searched it I assumed there'd be hundreds upon hundreds of channels.... nope. Well that's a huge surprise lol, ya learn something new every day.

Yeah, it's not something my channel is mainly focused on, but I do movie reviews often, so I thought it was appropriate. :P

I have ever been active in forums, wrote a bunch of tutorials there and these ususally get multiple thousands of reads. Some day I started to pimp my posts with video I uploaded to YouTube and they did surprisingly well.
This was the time when I got the idea to make a YouTube tutorial channel as a self-sustaining hobby that creates some passive income. Currently I am at about -500 bucks :)

I'd be happy if I stayed at half a million subs forever

I guess being able to say this would be my goal :D

I have a feeling it's easier to win the lottery. lol
Anyways, I currently have an 8-4 job, but it's not something I want to do for the rest of my life.

If YouTube is the thing, I don't know, and I doubt it. But I know for sure I will figure out a way to keep me from having a 8-4 job.
