The new visitor page!

Not. Even. Scared.
Hello everyone!! So I had a quick question. What do you prefer when visiting a new channel for the first time: a 40-60 second vid introducing the channel, or someone's latest video/most popular video (which may be 5-10 minutes) thanks :)

I never really watch intro videos to be honest. I cannot say an intro video has ever tempted me into subscribing but they have helped me find out more about the channels.

Yeah Same here, I actually like it more when someone simply adds a recent or popular video to there welcome page. That way it changes regularly and keeps fresh and up to date.. I'm not saying I dont like intro vids, they are nice too. But sometimes its too cinematic and all over the place.

I don't mind either, personally! I guess the aim is that every video you make should be relatively grabby from the start, so, if that's the case, any video should be able to slip into the "Channel Trailer" slot and grab a new viewer's attention!

Whatever best grabs my attention! I guess a channel trailer has more chances of doing so if done well. But a trailer alone never makes me subscribe. So, the latest and most popular videos should be easily accessible on the homepage as well.

But the channel trailer is only shown to new visitors. Subscribers will see fresh content anyway.

This is exactly what I've been struggling with, I like trailers because they can be entertaining but equally I don't have the time to make a new one that I'll be proud of right now :/ Equally putting recent or popular videos on it could ruin the watch time given people tend to like to choose their own :')

Oh that's a very good point! :wideyed2: Sometimes I click on a channel without knowing what it's about (like signature links here), and then a [niche that I don't watch] video autoplays and I click off immediately. That must be terrible for audience retention.

I think i prefer a latest/popular upload on the front page compared to an intro video. I just feel that an intro video might not represent the format and quality of the rest of the videos on the channel.

A latest video would tell me more about the channel than an intro video does because I'd assume that i can at least expect the rest of the videos to be similar to whatever I'm watching and I can guage if i wanna subscribe better. That's just me though haha.

I would like to see the latest video from that content creator. I see channel trailers as being a kinda 'set' showing of what that channel is going to produce, and I would rather watch the newest things they upload to see what I can expect in the future etc (I ramble I know)
