The Face Cam Conundrum

So I have no problem with the face cam, but it takes a decent amount of extra work to add it into the video. What i'm wondering is if it's really that big a deal. I personally feel that if you have a face cam, you have to play up to it and be more interactive with the audience. That really isn't a bad thing, as I do comedic gameplay commentary, but is it really worth all the extra work.
Personal Opinions Please. :)

I feel that facecam only works when you're playing a horror game, other than that, it doesn't really fit.
Agree with you also it's enuf that you need to do the commentary and play the game but also thinking of how you look at the camera just makes it even wurs :P

It really matters if the Face cam will improve the "comic" feel of the commentary, if you're just sitting there with a blank face and not really moving then it might not make the video as interesting/funny. So I would say, if you're going to add a face cam, make sure its adding something to the video like expressions or face gestures :)

I do feel like they distract from the gameplay myself, but if it's more about the commentary I think it would help :)

Pretty much my thoughts. Even with Amnesia, I feel it ruins the atmosphere. Plus, I tend to make weird noises and combinations of sounds more then I make faces, scary game or not.[DOUBLEPOST=1368917491,1368917361][/DOUBLEPOST]

For me it's really about the gameplay. If I could post videos of just gameplay I would, but that would be hard to get a fan base for. like i mentioned above, i tend to make sounds when i get scared or excited or angry.

Even with horror games it's kind of iffy, just make sure you have adequate lighting in the dark (if you don't play horror games in the dark...tsktsk) Otherwise, I'd vote no unless you're streaming and exporting to Youtube.

I have a facecam on iTwe4kzGames. But, like most said, you have to be doing something, blank stares aren't great. But I play rage games and horror games so I think a facecam works well with my content. And to tell you the truth - It's really not that much more work for me. I do have to sync it right, but I just feel like with facecams you're taking on more of the role of entertainer rather than the game being the main attention grabber.

most of my lets plays don't have Face cam unless we were playing a ps3 move game or something. i think some people just like to see a reaction. especially if your commentary is hilarious. then they wanna see your expressions and what not

Games aren't my thing but you don't have to have your PIP (Picture In Picture) on for the duration of the video. You can have it there in the beginning for a short while to make your video personal to the viewer. Then you can pick some spots in the video to pop your PIP back in and out. Use it to break up the presentation and keep it fresh.
