Some more info on this: we put some of our films, translated into Mandarin, and we are getting 800k views a month - not far off our YouTube channel. It's monetised like YouTube and it doesn't compete.
We have been on YouTube for five years, have 70,000 subs and 40 million views (hurrah). Yesterday, our Youku subs overtook our YouTube subs after just 18 months, and views will have done the same by Easter. Earnings are still lower on Youku than YouTube but not by much - though we have the cost of translating everything into Mandarin
