The Best Ways to gain active subs?

Hey guys so I was hoping that all of you who read this could post ALL of your methods of getting subs and views. Here are mine.
1. Posting on forums such as these
2. Sending people who are interested in content similar to mine a very heartfelt PM
3. Using official retweet accounts on twitter

I hate it when people send me "heartfelt" PM. It annoys the s**t out of me and I just ignore them. Also, make friend is a way to get active sub. Advertise it to your friends (and family if they're accepting) :L
 
I have to disagree man, sending a 'Heartfelt PM' makes you look desperate for success.. And no one wants to be around someone like that. I think the best way to gain truly active subscribers is to make the best content you can. You can spam people inboxes, twitter and facebook, but when they go to your channel and they don't like what you see, what's the point? They aren't going to stick around..

I think the best way (Personally) is to just let it happen naturally.
 
Like everyone said, the Messaging people and asking them to subscribe/ check out your channel usually leads to the person blocking you. You might get a few subscribers but I highly doubt they will be active.

Posting on forums like these is a step in the right direction, keep posting and saving up for the VIP status and you can post your videos here and have one in your signature for everyone to check out.

I've used Retweet accounts on twitter once or twice, didn't really work, might work for some, but I highly doubt its the best way to get active subs.

The key to active subs? Having high quality videos, and a bit of luck. You want people who find your videos entertaining to keep coming back for new videos.

1. Yes that can work; befriend people and they will be more likely to watch your videos/comment etc.
2. NO. Just no. It's against' YouTube's ToS (and this forum's rules just FYI) and people hate you for it.
3. Possibly, but the chances are quite small.

I have many active subs (and many active non-subs too; my comments/views mostly outweigh my sub count) and I believe this is how I got there:

1. Make videos about topics people WANT to respond to. Don't just blather or make it all about you.
2. Again, don't make it all about you. Chances are you're not famous enough for people to really care.
3. Encourage people to respond, subscribe and like in the video/description. You'd be surprised how well that can work.
4. Avoid sub-4-sub or any variation of it. Quickest route to Dead Subscriberville IMO.
 
Wow I didnt know PMs were so frowned upon... It seems that the opinion of PMs vaires GREATLY by forum. Here it seems it is a sin and on 2 others I read it is said to be "an effective way to gain active subs" and they also are very optimistic about it.

Yeah that's because they probably do it and don't consider how it actually rubs off on people.

I get them almost daily and I 'spam and block' almost instantly. Get that enough and YT will delete your channel for ToS violations.
 
I'd have to agree with what everyone has already said.
PM's are a no-no.
Making good quality videos on a regular basis is definitely a step in the right direction.
Encouraging viewer/sub participation is good (but not good if it's the FIRST thing you say in the video) or you repeat it like 3 times...that to me comes across as desperate.
 
I know see that you guys here at yttalk for sure HATE PMs. It just sucks because it is one of the easiest ways to gain subs. I try my best to put out good content and I am very confident that the content I put out is good. I just am s**t out of luck when it comes to getting it noticed.
