Taking Advantage of Free Publicity

My local newspaper has a cooking section and I am featured in that section in today's newspaper. The problem is is that they focused on me being a food blogger more than having a YouTube channel. So my website got an increase in traffic but I have gotten zero additional subscribers to my channel. I shared my article on Facebook. My friends and family shared it, still no additional subscribers. I told them to support me by subscribing to my channel. Nothing.

The copy and pasted article is on my website. No additional subscribers. I don't know what I'm doing wrong and I don't want this rare opportunity to go to waste. What else can I do? Share the article with other media outlets?

Some audience is simply not really YouTube savy. So they may just not have their own account that they can use to subscribe to you.

I didn't see a link to your website on your channel. Is there?
You seem to be focusing on your channel when you should be growing a multi-faceted presence. Website, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

The audience of a local newspaper tends to be older, and they may not be tech savvy, perhaps not even knowing how to subscribe to a YouTube channel. If you can make that clear on your website, that may help.

What about introducing your channel on website?
I have my website in the description of every video I make.[DOUBLEPOST=1442198916,1442198599][/DOUBLEPOST]

The thing is I looked at my demographics and only 3% are over 55.

My audience is mostly guys between ages 25-34 and in general, they should know how to subscribe to any channel. I have annotations at the end of every video that allows them to subscribe. If I put them in the beginning of my videos, then it starts to become spammy.

I kinda struggled with this as well -- deciding whether to focus on growing the YouTube channel (and generate subscribers), or build my website (and generate more general search engine traffic.)

In the end, I decided to do both. I created a similar "subscribe" section on my website that allows users to sign-up for email updates when I post. I have a free account from Mailchimp I use for it. So no matter where the users land, there's some way for them to sign-up for updates.
