Tags to use for videos?

I used to bother with tags, but now less so. YouTube often recommends decent tags depending on your video title and what's trending - if you're really stuck you can always use those. Otherwise put honest tags which refer to your video. So if it was a funny prank video, maybe put funny, prank, joke, coffee shop, jumpscare, public, YKmovies; that kind of stuff (but obviously put more depending on the content and context - 40 tags should be your limit) - I hoped this kinda helped! ;D

@GilledGiraffe Dude, Tags are actually SOOOO Important. You should check out some videos/websites on SEO and learn how to tag so good that you get ranked higher in searches.! And I find most of the recommended tags don't work for me they just make me get less views and I never get ranked high in the searches So I usually tag stuff that not a lot of people would tag, But I guess it depends what you're making you're videos on.

I use a combination of both of them. I'm at a point now where my channel is growing fast, so tags are becoming less of a method to draw in viewers. But I agree, tags are mightily important, thanks

I've started re-adding them now, to see if it makes any difference (I suspect it probably will!) The truth is, I have no idea how many subs I have because in the last 2 days I've had six emails telling me that's someone's subscribed to me, but the display on my channel is broken... and won't change...

From everything I've read on these forums tags are important. I haven't updated mine but I will. You have to use more than just words though from what I understand. You have to use phrases to almost mimic what you think someone would be searching for. I may be oversimplifying but it's a good place to start.

I've used tags on some of my videos and others not as much, what I have noticed though is that all of my youtube search traffic is coming from videos that have tags and its a decent amount for my channel, it is however small.
I think as a channel grows tags are more important, just like a website once it grows it gets even more higher up in the search results, these are at least my findings so far.
