Sudden boost in subscribers - reason?

Congratulations. I am jealous! I'm not a gamer but I went to your channel and visually it looks so polished and nice. Good job! You should be proud of yourself!

So - my channel is fairly small (414 subscribers/30,000+ views) - and I've been growing at a steady rate of roughly 8-10 subscribers and 1,000 views per day.

However, with NO promotion whatsoever, yesterday (29th December), I suddenly had +42 subscribers! I've checked Reddit/Twitter/FB etc. to see if anyone has shared my channel, but no.

Any ideas why this may have happened? Just a freak day (in a good way)?

That is quite the crazy jump lol maybe someone did share your channel but not told you? other than that, maybe just a stroke of luck :) speaking of luck, here's one more sub for you :D
 
Think I've figured it out.

A huge surge of views came from 'Browse Features' on the YouTube home page! No idea how my video got there, or how long it stayed there, but one episode of my series now has 2,000 views and I've gained 65 subscribers in two days because of it!

You might have gotten your videos put on the recommended bar for larger YouTubers. When vids share SEO and receive enough views to track who the audience is, YouTube sometimes matches it with similar videos of larger YTers. I've known a couple of people who have gotten big this way.
