Subscribers Disliking - Really starting to make me mad.

YTtalk Mad
Every so often I release a video that gets a few dislikes within the first few hours of being released. This means it is being viewed by people clicking on it from my channel page, and subscribers. What I don't understand is it's most often on videos that I consider fillers.

Fillers are my videos that aren't meant to get thousands upon thousands of views. They're the content that comes in between. They are usually small updates about the game I cover (WoW) or random videos of me doing things in the game.

With the amount of views a lot of my videos get early on compared to the amount of views within the hour for the channel as a whole I have pretty much figured out that it is subscribers giving those first few likes/dislikes on new videos, not just random people.

My fillers are titled appropriately. It's not like I make them & title them as clickbaits... It's honestly pretty darn easy to know what the video is going to be about when people see the title/thumbnail. So it really is starting to tick me off that people dislike the videos because in my opinion it seems to be more about "hey I don't like these types of videos, stop uploading them" instead of (what I consider to be the real reason someone should dislike a video) "I was interested in the title/thumbnail and thought the video would be good, but you did a terrible job at creating the video."

I know everyone gets dislikes. Hell, I've lost hundreds of subscribers over the course of my channel, and I don't fret it. I know my content is not for everyone and I'd rather lose a subscriber than have a subscriber who doesn't enjoy the content. The part that pisses me off is that these dislikers aren't commenting or messaging me with their complaints.

In the past when someone has expressed their opinion about why a certain type of content isn't enjoyable on my channel, I've adapted to create more enjoyable content. I'm VERY responsive to feedback, so when people dislike the video and leave the page, but remain as a subscriber, it seems pointless.

Sorry for the rant...

Almost every YouTuber experience this issue, just don't worry about it, dislikers will get frustrated and go away, likers will come and like your videos :D

I think you made it clear right off the bat why people are disliking the videos, they are "filler". Nobody wants a half baked video made just for the sake of getting another quick video out, they want quality content, that's why they subscribed. It's your job to take the dislikes into account, figure out what types of videos that get the most dislikes, and then improve the quality of those types of videos. That's the reason the buttons exist; as a way to give quick feedback.

I think ninja covered it pretty good

I do experience this, but you should take it into consideration. I was growing well, and getting very few dislikes. Then as I started doing trades, and not just tutorials, the trades instantly got 3- 5 dislikes immediately. I also noticed on those days I was losing quite a few subscribers, although I was gaining enough to still grow slightly. Before doing many trades I was getting 5,000 - 7,000 views the first week of a new video. The more I started doing videos that aren't tutorials, but especially the trades, the more my tutorial uploads suffered too. Now I get 1,000 - 3,000 on average for the first week. It took me quite a while to realize this, and I think it will take awhile to earn back my subscribers attention. I even announced I will move trades to another channel, and do only tutorials on the main channel from now on. I actually have more thumbs up on that video then I have had in awhile, so I know I have made the right decision.

I would urge you to consider it carefully. I was at about 10,000 views per week, and am now at 5,000 - 6,000 . Views aren't everything, and I love my loyal subscribers, but I want many people to enjoy the videos. If most find them filler ones too boring, I have no problem keeping them on another channel. I think part of it had to do with how the feed looks too. When doing only tutorials, you see finished products as each photo. once I did filler videos and trades it was about 50% tutorials, 50% filler. I also went from gaining over 100 subs a on average to around 30 - 50.
I don't mean this to sound like poor pitiful me. I am grateful for the fans I have, and didn't expect to grow as quickly as I have. But my decision to have lots of filler (that I thought people would enjoy) drove people away and made my channel less desirable.

Heather's story is awesome. I am definitely going to take a hard look at whether or not filler content is worth it. I think that maybe posting this thread and Heather seeing it might be one of the most important events in my channel's history, or future rather.

I hope you're wrong, so I'd be on the right track. But if you're right, at least I can stop it before its too late.

The videos i have here with the least likes are as you call them 'fillers' My main videos get round about 20 likes and 1-3 dislikes.

I totally agree with Ninja

100% agreed. Always choose quality over quantity. If so many people are disliking it, it's unfortunately not their job to explain it to you - they're just there to watch. You have to, as you said you will do, take a look at your content and see why it's not working and move on from there. Better to know now, as Heather mentioned, rather than regret it down the line. It's good that you picked up on it already, GeekyNet, as you can only get better from here on out! :)

I am glad it can help. Hopefully you are on the right track ;)
I just wanted to share since I learned this the hard way. It is never too late though. I didn't lose all my subscribers. I should have posted that overall number though. 12,171 subscribers lost. I think that is a pretty big number considering I am at 42,000 subs.
