We all want more subscribers and sometimes we look at it as just a number, a measure of our popularity. Some people do “sub for sub” meaning if I subscribe to your channel then you will subscribe to mine, on its face it seems like a good idea but it really is not.
The reason you want lots of subs is because people who are subscribed will see your videos in their feed and someone who subscribed to you just to get a sub may not want to watch your videos and if they do it a lot then they have a ton of people they don’t really care about in their feed and you get lost.
Even worse is services where you pay money for subs, these services have accounts made just to subscribe to channels who pay for it. These people will never watch your videos so that sub is dead and will hurt you in the long run.
I was once told by a great youtuber that you should measure your channels health by measuring view on each video against your subscriber count. If your channel is doing well then you should be getting at least 25% of your subscriber number in views per video. For example if you have 100 subs you should be getting 25 views per video. I normally give my videos a week to reach this mark and If it falls short I see why that video did not perform well.
If you have nothing but subs for subs and purchased subs then you are not going to be doing very well. A subscriber should be someone who likes your content and wants to see more of it. Not everyone who subscribes will watch every video that is why we are only shooting for 25%
