I think a good starting point for you would be to browse / search the tutorials forum ( http://yttalk.com/forums/youtube-tutorials-articles-resources.10/ ) There are loads of great articles in there with tips on how to grow a channel.

Network.. use facebook, twitter, google+, email your friends and family.

If all else fails, search these forums for answers to the same question the 40,000 people have already asked.

Remember that there is no guaranteed method of success on YouTube. You could follow what someone really popular has done exactly and there's almost no chance you'll be as popular as them, there's no guarantee you'd get any viewers at all.

The biggest factor in growing into a successful channel is luck. And you can't really control that. Some people can upload videos and an audience will find them and they explode overnight, but the vast majority of YouTubers can upload videos for years and go virtually nowhere.
