Stop Watching YouTube Videos

Meh, no one makes content quite like I do. I'd be lying if I said some of my style wasn't inspired from other places, but the end result is my videos are very different than most.

I think you should be open to all the influences you want to, and then go do your own thing. I don't believe in closing yourself off, creativity will do that for you when it strikes. And when it does yes, of course at that you should do what is natural. But i don't believe in cutting yourself off from things that inspire you.

I strongly agree with this, as well. I'm a game designer also, and it's crucial to play other games and research other mechanics to improve your own. I've applied that to all my creative endeavors. Obviously if you're stealing an idea 1:1 you're doing it wrong, but consuming media to better inform your opinions about your own I think is absolutely critical to good content!

If you just make content in a vaccuum it will be the worst.

While this advice is interesting, watching the content of other similar creators can also help you improve - you can see what they're doing right, but also what they're doing wrong!

I take what they are doing and putting my own twist on it. They don't stifle my creativity. They are feeding it every time I watch a video! But, I don't watch too many anymore. Not enough time!

I also think that letting yourself inspire you is ok but trying to "be someone else" will most likely go wrong. It's a problem though if you watch more than actually create :D

I agree with most of what is being said. I see both sides of this, on one hand I watch videos to gain inspiration and that is all good but many times I find myself wasting time watching videos that are not really relevant. That's obviously a flaw that I need to iron out, gain more control over which videos I watch and why. I think though sometimes just browsing on YouTube to see which types of videos are trending is a good thing, even out of your niche since they could give you some great ideas. All you'd be left to do is somehow relate it back to your niche and make it entertaining and valuable!

Very true being creative and unique is what's ganna make your videos good. I think you should watch youtubers but still do your own thing. Everyone on YouTube is different so be your own channel. [emoji4]

What's funny about this, is that I don't watch videos in my genre at all. My kids got some toys and told me to turn the camera on and set up the shot and it's been that way since haha. They are the consumers of the videos and have knowledge of it. I have tried to learn more and more about editing and production which is actually inspiring me to try other things. So, it might be just my imagination limiting me at this point. But I can see where being complacent might hurt, which would, in fact, be hampered by following an already established formula.
