Stop Frame Animation & 2D Animation

What are the easiest methods to do stop motion or even 2D animations. I dont think my method is very efficient since i use microsoft paint or deviant art muro and import the pictures into sony vegas.

Any help/software suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance... :)
 
I'm doing 2D animation at TAFE at the moment and we use Adobe Flash. Not sure what a good free one would be.
 
Paint.net, Photoshop and Flash are Awesome alternatives.
Sony Vegas a pretty good video/audio editing program to use so there's nothing wrong with that.
Other good video editing programs are After Effects and Premiere pro.
