Starting A Gaming Community/organisation:

Hi all I'm making this thread not because I'm making a gaming community/organisation but because I've been successful within the scene and would like to give advice to those interested.

So you're wanting to start your own gaming brand, now what you need to take in mind is you wont be able to do it with no finance, and you also wont be able to do it if you give up easy. It is not at all easy to set up a popular gaming brand like OpTic, Envy, Epsilon, Prophecy etc but it is possible. Gaming is one of the fastest growing communities in the world so you're not short of audience or market, but if you're short on cash look for an investor because you're going to need money, even just a youtube team will need money from the start so below is a list of what you will/should get:

1. Professional Logo - You get so many organisations/clans/communities ripping of logo's found on google or already used, DO NOT use other companies or teams logo's as this could kick you in the a** in the future. Go to a professional designer/Graphic artist and price them up and also check there portfolio with an original professional logo you will stand out to other gaming organisations.

2. Get an Intro - This is even more important to youtube teams, but even for competitive organisations and teams this is vital, a professional Intro can mean so much and help allot. When uploading media to your channel you want to brand it so companies and viewers see your professionalism, this therefore could attract sponsors and fans. Do not use templates make sure your intro is original idea, go to professional Video FX artist for this, or if you know people then contact them. I have seen many people asking for free work, you can get free work which is good be this is almost impossible if you want to look good you're going to have to put the money in.

3. Website - This is important to show you're professionalism but don't use websites which are free like .webs, go and buy a domain and host, this will then attract you sponsors, and also along with buying this look for a web designer as the free website template may not look all that good. The website is vital to showing sponsors that you're legit and are committed to the organisations/community/team.

So the above is 3 most important things to buy, now you've done this it's time to sort out a team of players and to build an audience. First of don't just accept someone because they can record look at there previous work such as montages, and ask a bit about them. The other important thing to think of is quality of videos make sure they're High Definition, the audio equipment is to a good quality etc etc. create a team that are committed and don't be afraid to say no to people, you want the best you can get to make your brand go forward.

Now you have a team you may need an editor, find someone who has already done work this is going to cost you, but do you want to make an audience or do you just want to make videos? Paying for your edit will attract an audience, if I see a montage and the editing is really good I'll go ahead and subscribe for more of the same. Editing is a vital aspect it is the hidden art to productions, so make sure you get the correct editor for the job.

So you have an editor and team now time to build you social networking, make a twitter and facebook, start advertising (don't spam pages, forums etc) the bigger your following the more popular your brand, sponsors will want to look at these so before applying to sponsors make sure you have a good amount of followers, likes and subs. Then create a professional portfolio to email to sponsors your portfolio will need to include, who the brand is, what your aim is, your staff and team information, social network links, contact information etc. A portfolio of good quality will stand out over people just emailing in.

I hope this has helped, I'm willing to give advice to people who need it and help out where I can with gaming teams, but I'm apart of an eSports organisation as a manager so please understand I wont have that much time,

Thanks

Jordan

Good advice. This all changes depending on the type of gaming channel, meaning that not every channel will need such professional editors (MLG Teams rarely have editors unless their sponsor feels they should.)

These are very helpful tips, and definitely the theme to take away from all of this is a sense of professionalism. You want your logo, you want your brand, you want your website - it all adds to creating a professional atmosphere around your community / team, and will help attract sponsors, and in my opinion, viewers.

Thanks for the post :D

Yeah I've worked with a few MLG teams, it all depends on the media in which needs to edited. You're welcome I've been in the scene since 2006 just want to give a little advice cause I've been there tried when I was about 15 to create an organisation with no knowledge so hope people get help from this.

I was on an MLG Team for a little bit, and the only editor we had was one of the players, because we didn't really do edits, or montages etc. Those tips can definitely help people out, and they are applicable to a normal YouTube channel as well (introduction, your own logo etc.)

Things are quite right but they are not necessary .
Let me explain . Look at Team Liquid , NADota , GosuGamers or Playdota . Every single of these communities didn't have anything of this . They got their "cool stuff" when they got big . I mean , GosuGamers was a little s****y community and 2 years ago they had a team at The International . Why did GG or TL got big and now they have their own teams ? From a small community they become an organisation . How ? Good content . TL is one of the best resources when it comes to Starcraft and Starcraft II . PlayDota should be the home page for every Dota player . And they didn't have editors , designers and stuff . The community made everything to grow . I remember when PlayDota had a free template for the website and stuff .
So the most important thing is the content . If you have 5 montages with snipers running around a 1x1 map but with a good editing , you can keep it for yourself IMHO . If you give some insight about strategies , cast some competitive matches or make a highlight of a competitive match , then yes , i'm gonna subscribe . And you don't need to be the best editor in the world to make a good highlight . Youtube is full of CoD montages and to be honest , they look all the same . I saw something like 5 montages that were really good . And i saw plenty of them .
So yeah , in my opinion , if you want to start a community you need content first , then logos , intros and stuff .
When it comes to a gaming organisation it's way more complex .
First of , you need to be really good at the game . Then you can think about medias and stuff .
Starting gaming communities and organisations is hard and to be honest a 15 years old person is not good enough to do it .
Just my opinion and my personal experience . I've been around for 8 years now so i'm not just shooting b******t .

I think it is possible for a 15 year old to start a community and organization. It is not unheard of, it just takes a motivated and dedicated individual. I can name a few times where a successful organization / community was created by a younger person. In fact, a quite successful organization I was in was created by my friend, and we had quite the loyal fanbase (it was not YouTube base, but still).

I think it is good to try to begin your brand, instead of waiting for it to come to you. As I stated before, it adds to your sense of professionalism, and allows people to be more comfortable with talking business with you, regardless of your age.

I think they are pretty good tips, but again, it is a TON of work to do all of this, even if you can pay someone to do everything.

You have a valid point, but when these were founded years ago the community was smaller and much easier to gain sponsors now you have 1oo0's of teams and organisations trying to get big all with High Definition recording devices etc. Sponsors have more to choose from so you want to make yourself look allot better to them, I've spent the past three years working as marketing, HR and sponsorship managers at several of UK's biggest organisations.[DOUBLEPOST=1372959130,1372959112][/DOUBLEPOST]
This really helps, thank you!

Happy to help in anyway possible.
