Sony Vegas or nah?

Vegas has great render options for small size without losing quality. How are the render options on premier pro?

They've got hundreds of pre-made render settings for specific cameras, resolutions, youtube, vimeo and a few more that I've not really looked at.. then when you click on one of those settings you can go into settings and change the maximum and minimum rendering bitrate so the file can be as small/large as you want. It also gives you an estimate of how large the file will be before you render it.

If you can get past the occasional glitches and frustration of it crashing and corrupting your video files after working on a video for an hour then #Yasssss

If not then nahhh

Sony Vegas crashed on me once and I thought the world had ended. Hours of work just disappeared.

The first image is all of the different presets you get to choose from while editing a video, you normally pick one that relates to the source you recorded the video with.. in most cases that Digital SLR

The second image is just a look inside 2 of the options, you can select all sorts of resolutions (these depend on which source you pick). So Digital SLR has from 480p - 1080p which are the main resolutions most DSLR's record in.. while the RED one has all the way up to 5k resolution as RED cameras film up to that.

These last 2 I've added them as thumbnails as they're rather long images. But when you come to exporting/rendering a video these are the options you get, you have all sorts of file formats the second list with all the different options which include Youtube and Vimeo is the file format H.264.


I normally render my videos for Vimeo 1080p as it renders in a slightly higher quality and a larger mbps than the YouTube preset and I like to store my videos in the highest quality I can afford to spare.

Sony Creative Software is expected to be announcing Vegas 13 at NAB which is coming up very soon. Version 12 has a lot of glitches including issues with GPU usage and flickering at times. Hopefully 13 will fix those.

I use Sony Vegas all the time, I think it's great and really really simple to use.
I've used AAE quite a few times as well, that's quite hard to use but I thought it was enjoyable learning it.
But I'd 100% recommend using Sony Vegas to start with

I use Movie Studio Platinum. Its very accessible and it has a built in guide that teaches you how components you don't understand work. Its also by Sony (I don't know if its related to the Vegas line). However, whether you use Vegas, Premiere, Platinum, or another software, your product will always be better than Movie Maker. If programs like Vegas are rock bands, then Movie Maker is an orchestra composed exclusively of bagpipe players. I highly recommend getting some form of superior editing software.
