Song covers live or over mic?

So I want to release a singing cover video but wondering if I should film myself doing it or record into a mic. I see a lot of song covers done live but see a lot of japanese/english fandubber people do it over a mic so just wondering what the best idea would be.

Most people that record it with a camera will have recorded it with a mic and put it over the video.

Yeah that's how music production is done, except for live performances as you've mentioned before. I also record the sound beforehand because of editing purposes (i.e recording outside, multiple shots, etc).

Record it on audio, and then "lip-sync" the video, edit it, etc. (if it isn't a live performance).
