I think you might need to take a short break until it blows over. They will forget/get bored given enough time and move onto other targets providing you don't give them the reaction they are looking for.
Misunderstandings can happen as well so thinking before you speak can greatly reduce that.. And I think you know what i mean by that. Avoiding situations that you could come off as a creep will also greatly reduce any of this ever happening again in the future.

I think this is really an individual to individual case… But I have to agree however that with adult supervision this particular situation may not have happened.
